Reviews
- Edited 5 years agofor me this is not one of the best Albums by Mikkel Metal, still overall its satisfying , this is a good play for outdoor summer night atmospheres. "Krudina" is my favorite music in this release.
- Mikkel Metal returns to Echocord for BRONE AND WAIT, which starts with the almost funky "Dromos," while "Brikan" gets more granular. Breaks come in with "Stand Guard," showing that Metal has rhythmic tricks up his sleeve, like the slow thud and hazy loops of "Nexxer" or the click-glitch of "Roddan." Metal also uses more guitar tones in this album, which adds an warm, organic quality to the tracks on which they're featured. But "Sala" drives forward with no other textures except its bouncing chords and the urgent, clipped percussion, before "Bano" slows things to a mood-drenched crawl. "Conceal" caps things off with a dark growl. A great step forward for dub techno.
- Edited 10 years agoA very good full length from one of the best dub techno producers post 2000. I don't like referring or categorizing Mikkel to something as limited of just one genre like dub techno but so he still seems to fit there unfortunately. This release has plenty of moments. Basslines that will surprise you in some (stand guard) and melodies that are memorable in others (krudina which is my favorite song on this release). Bridged with moments in time captured in dub. There are a few IDM rhythms that remind me of releases on Mille Plateaux from early 2000's like 'roddan' or 'bano'. Even a wicked heavy German sounding tracks like "sala" or the infectious and surpringly funky opener in 'dromos'. This release grows on you fast and after about 7-8 listens it has you going to it like a house release. It's light, airy and catchy through and through. A defimite winner here.
