Reviews
- i’ve got the promo version with all the right songs on it. maybe the disc was swapped but i’m happy regardless. this is an amazing record
- The first copy I found of this album was the mispressed version but a friend of mine had a copy without it so I eventually was able to trade for it. I don't have the two copies anymore, just the one with the correct songs playing where they should but if I remember right there was a difference between the lenght of the run-out on Side One on the two versions. The picture in the entry looks pretty much like the version I have. Someone should probably create an entry for the mispressed version if they can
- MY COPY ALSO HAS THE SAME TRACK OF GIRL ON FIRE TWICE. THE MISSING ONE IS 9 MINUTES LONG.ANY OF THE COPIES MADE UNSPOILED?
- Edited 4 years agoThis is an excellent overlooked album. For me is one of the masterpieces of US psychedelia.
Well, just recently I purchased an original copy of it, with "NOT FOR SALE - PROMOTION COPY" sticker on the cover, and I observed a weird thing :
Side 1, instead of playing the track "the capture of me" it plays the track "girl on fire"- while side 2 plays intact as indented !!!
I did compared my copy with photos found on the net, and the 'run out-groove' space is greater on mine than on the other copies - pretty understood, as "The Capture Of Me" clocks on 4:15 min. - while "Girl On Fire" is clocking only on 2:24.
Plus I found this info on "Acid Archives" Book :
"Some copies of this album are incorrectly mastered, with one song repeated and another missing. [Aaron Milenski]"
So I guess, this error was present on the first production batch, including the "Not For Sale - Promo" labeled copies.
Any additional info appreciated. - Edited 5 years agoOne of the better sounding Stereo recorded psych albums from this time. Good imaging and a decently deep soundstage, except for the odd mono track of course. Sounds are vibrant and destinguishable in the mix while certain aspects can shine most at any one time, good emphasizing that doesnt leave other performances suffering.
Pannings are done well without losing instrumental integrity or having it feel completely fake. Which is good because there is a lot of it.
Dynamics can also really make segments slam into play increasing listening enjoyment.
I wish a lot more psych sounded this good. It really shows that they knew what they were doing. You dont need a spotless copy either as the music mostly overrides any surface noise or light ticks.
Equipment Used:
Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-110 Cartridge
Cyrus 2 Amplifier
System Fidelity SF-3050 Tower Speakers
Custom made HQ Speaker Cables - I remember these old guys from DC. It's fun to see their album floating around. Good band, just missed it by a hair.
