Reviews
- Yeah...it's shame such a good compilation has such crazy surface noise after a good clean. Usually might not as noticeable but when you're listening to quieter acoustic songs you can't help but hear it.
- Face B of my copy sound horrible , big crackle from start to finish (no scratches , no dust and no static)
Not the quality we got use to with Thirdman record. - Edited one year agoJust bought brand new, 1st listen notes. Variant 6. Beautiful packaging and printing quality of cover and booklet. Wonderful songs/music or I wouldn't be listening & writing this. Sides A/B - a few clicks, no bad pops, sounds pretty good but not as pristine as one would hope JW would craft. Side C - as noted elsewhere first two songs have a few annoying clicks and pops. Last two songs lacking clarity. Side D - satisfactory sound but not super-duper. Wish I could compare this with the masters, but just for kicks I a/b'd "Just One Drink" between this vinyl and streaming it on my phone from Tidal with my bluetooth headphones.... the stream sounds better. The cd probably sounds better than this pressing. Would try exchanging but from but from the earlier comments it looks like it would be a waste of time. Just my $.02. 3 stars = 5 for the music, 1 for the pressing. [edit to add star rating]
- Edited one year agoBought this on RSD a few years ago. Clicks and pops in many tracks that a wet cleaning didn't get rid of. Rough edges on both disks. Spindle holes needed to be reamed with a letter opener. Another casualty of the current era of poor pressings. Really dissapointed in this pressing, especially for acoustic recordings on an otherwise beautiful package. I'm surprised that Jack White and co. wasn't more stringent on the QA/QC on this pressing... the spindle holes were not the only thing that got reamed on this.
- I took a chance and should have known better. My copy is just as bad as others state on here. First two songs on side C each have major skips. And all sides have inconsistent pops and crackles.
- Dear Third Man Records, Jack White, please repress this record using a pressing plant that is truly deserving of the music that it will hold!
- I received my copy as a present a few years ago. Clicks and pops in some tracks that a cleaning machine can't get out and a visible ripple in the vinyl on the first LP. The second LP is rough cut with sharp edges on the LP. Disappointing. The jacket is really stiff with the seam on the fold cracking after opening the bifold several times.
Nice collection to sit and relax to, but QA/QC is a bit annoying for a new pressing. - Music is great but the pressing is terrible. I’ve been consistently disappointed with records from Third Man. Jack is an analog purist so I keep hoping for a win but seem to strike out every time.
- I was very excited to get this, too bad it sounds horrible. Not the recording but the pressing.
2021 has been the worst year for new vinyl I have ever had. - A nice compilation but an awful pressing. Depending on the song and record side it's crackling, rumbling or distortion in the vocals. I did not expect that and as it seems from the other comments it might be a very difficult hunt to find a copy that is of much better quality.
