I have the splatter vinyl edition and I can confirm all that is said. The mastering is bad. The sound is very loud. Almost muffled sometimes. And the pressing is as bad as the mastering. There is a lot of cliks and pops. A first cleaning removed some of them but too much still remains. I'm very surprised a band like Opeth can release a record like that.

Bought the black vinyl, washed it twice and still sounds pretty bad, lots of pops. I would assume that a band like Opeth would worry about the end product. Overall presentation in top notch but the music should have prevalence. Disappointed!

Excessively bass heavy. If you don't have bass controls to adjust on your amp I'd avoid this pressing. When adjusted my copy sounds great.

I agree. I listened to the digital version of the album a couple of times. The black vinyl (27361 38221) sounds bass heavy compared to the digital copy. Other than that I am very happy with my copy.

My comment is a review of the Moderbolaget Records NE 3822-1, 27361 38221 black vinyl's sound quality. Bass HEAVY. I'm glad to see others agree. I thought it was my stereo. I'm bringing it to a listening party this weekend to play it on a different stereo. I'm more than a little bit disappointed. I don't think this was intended by the artist. Just a warning if you buy a vinyl version check the reviews of the many different pressings. Some seem to be better than others.

Just listening to my vinyl copy for the first time. It's definitely bass heavy, to the point where it's hard to judge mids vs treble. I suspect that if the low end was turned down a bit, it would be a reasonably balanced master, if not exceptional.

Otherwise it seem like a clean cut to me, so no complaints in that regard.

I've turned my bass compensator down to 'normal' and it sounds a little better. Shame I had to do that though...with most records it sounds about right to me with the dial at 12 o' clock.

I am a bit shocked. The sound quality on black vinyl is remarkably bad. What has happened? No highs, no mids, just annoying bass. I can't understand how a label or distribution can flood the market with this low quality stuff, especially when it comes to Opeth.
