seriously weighty tunes on this release. Both these tunes remind me of Toasty, Search & Destroy and early Distance. HUGE release!

I nominate this one of the best tunes of 2007. Roger Semsroth (Sleeparchive, Skanfrom) moving into new realms with his take on dubstep here. Lots of bleeps and spookiness as you would expect, with Russia sounding a bit like an evil ice cream truck in parts. It is the better track on the 12", very powerful. LAC has an astronaut saying 'Yes sir I read you loud and cleeeeaaaaarrrrrrrrr' with distortion/ effects on his voice. Fat, deep bass all over and a total absence of the 4/4 beat are the most obvious departures from the Sleeparchive sound, but otherwise many Sleeparchive elements are present ie the vaguely sinister, driving power, the cracks and pops, the perfectly placed pauses and reprises. This gets classified as dubstep but it is only because of the percussion pattern. There is no crackling atmospherics, nothing remotely reggae influenced, he's doing his own thing here and it's really good. No foolin' I think this guy is as talented as Mozart or Coltrane.
While this is officially listed as a collaboration it is really basically a Roger Semsroth piece.
