- Wow. By far my favorite Tim Reaper plate to date! This EP doesn't fuck around. "Return View" kicks off with one of the most energetic amens I've ever heard, reminiscent of Skitty+Nolige's "Apocalypse" off RH and the final drop on "Uncharted Territory Part 1" off Penny Black. Pure, unadulterated mayhem at its finest. "Lake Volta" drops the energy down a few notches to a half-time stepper with an extremely hypnotic drone-like mid-range echoing sound. Big switch-up on the 2nd drop makes it one to let play for awhile before mixing out of it. B1 "The Refractor" just builds and builds, starting from an ambient intro that beckons Dylan's "Headcharge" off RH or "Retribution" off Outbreak. The sinister choppage is some of the best programming I've heard in awhile! " Submerge" rounds out the quadruple A-sider, a rinser that's a few shades lighter in tone than the 3 predecessors but the proverbial energy-knob is still stuck on 11. Watch out for that 2nd drop bassline blowing your monitors! The A1 and B1 tunes are gonna be played a lot in the years and decades to come, as they're not only timeless in quality, but there's so much occurring within the tracks that listeners will continually hear new elements. One of the best records of 2016, and it's so positive to hear an amazing producer like Reaper just get better and better :)
- wow.. this is some dark jungle! The drum work on 'The Refactor' is pretty amazing. check it out! 5/5
- Edited 7 years agoSo you're thinking: "Hmmm should I get this Storylines EP?" Think no more- of course you should own it so go ahead and just add it to the cart and hit purchase while you continue to read this. Tim Reaper gives you a taste of his incredible versatile style through 4 tracks. 'Return View' is a dark moody filtered layered beat masterpiece with enough oldskool stabs to shake a stick at. 'Lake Volta' is a great atmospheric minimal techno inspired tune great for set intros and layering underneath other tracks. The last two minutes of 'Refactor' could arguable be the most high energy two minutes of any jungle track I've heard in years. Relentless is the way I'd describe it, amen mashup that just keeps building and building. The last track Submerge is a classic nice vibes intelligent 94 feel tune and just takes you to the next level. You cannot go wrong with this EP- you will love every second of it so just do yourself a favor and buy it or regret years later. Reaper keeps getting better and better, it's scary to think of what future masterpieces we'll be hearing from him!
