Canberra's own shimmering pop group From The South release their first album 'In Horizons' on hellosQuare. Recorded with the glorious warmth that a 4-track brings to the table, these eight songs are full of melancholic highs and lows that recall the melodies of early Triffids and the hooks of Teenage Fanclub and Orange Juice, while carrying on that amazing Australian underground pop tradition.
- Coming to In Horizons by way of Cool, Cool Memories, From The South maintains their flawless presentation laced with jangling guitars, a deeply sonic atmosphere that’s been lushly internalized, yet here contains vocals that are a bit more present, dancing on the edges of psychedelic folk-rock (as Galaxie 500 was known for), where lyrical stories reveal themselves with a gentle hand and visionary depth.
That being said, this albums floats with a bit more of a low-keyed pop song attitude, though nevertheless, is amazingly satisfying and resilient, meaning that this grouping of songs infused with bouncing guitars and vocal harmonies is going to sound as good twenty years from now as it does today.
