The "experimental" tracks definitely sounded fresher when they were recorded, and the philosophy that Flynt used to make this music (he thinks rock and roll and ethnic music are some kind of anti-canonical statement of popular genius) is a bit patronizing. But in practice the rickety rhythms, the furious pre-punk bashing of the drums, the almost vocal-sounding guitar tone and the captivating vortices of fingerpicked notes come together to make a wild-rocking and just slightly unplaceable whole: it doesn't sound like Beefheart, or like the Velvet Underground, or the Fall, or the Stooges, or the Rolling Stones, though there are echoes of each. If ESP-Disk had released this in 1967, original copies would be thousand-dollar collector's items. As it is the price fluctuates, so send me a message if you want the files. Side 1 is almost uniformly excellent, except maybe "Missionary Stew"; Side 2 is much spottier, but you can't afford to skip "Sky Turned Red," and the last two tracks are alright.

One of the most beautiful hidden treasure of the velvet 60's! Highly recommended!
