- Exquisite Record Industry pressing and enjoyable mastering for the money. The only cut ive heard that truly notably bests this is the Mofi which itself was notably better than the nm OG UK i sold.
- Edited 2 months agoSounds very good after a cleaning. Very well balanced, clean and crisp sound except during some high frequencies distortion for during final solo guitar of time. Cover material is rubbery thats is nice. Highly recomended at a good price
- Edited 4 months agoNot a nice pressing. I’ve owned this for just over a year from new and I have played it a few times and each time I do I just get more frustrated with it.
Noisy pressing with audible clicks in places even after cleaning. Over emphasised sibilance which is on the limits of acceptable, the track Eclipse at the end of side 2 is just a sonic mess and I am 100% confident it is not my equipment it is this particular record.
My copy has always had a slight warp to it too, not a really bad warp but it is slightly dished. The album is redeemed by being mostly well mastered, it’s deep and bright and it’s a well known classic album with some great music here. It’s just a lousy pressing.
Would love an original, but they go for silly money and can have defects with skipping issues. I think the CD of the original mastering will remain my go to, but that also reveals some limitations in the original recording such as over saturation. It’s not the audiophile grade record the hyperbole makes it out to be, there are much better albums than this sonically, but it is mostly good. - Edited 11 months agoUPDATE: 12/26/2023 I received a replacement copy from the seller Starship Records and this time the vinyl is flawless! No complaints, as everything is perfect. Dark Side Of The Moon is timeless and this AAA 2016 edition was superbly remastered!
For the life of me I don't know how an iconic album like this gets past quality control in the pressing plant. My copy not only had paper debris but large scuff marks on both sides. The first track on side 1 " Speak To Me" is ruined by very audible ticks and some static. The song is quiet, so the noise stands out. Side 2 "Money" has 1 momentary pop and overall is not as noisy, as the cash register ringing at the beginning, where the scruff mark is, drowns it out. Shame, since the replication of the jacket, posters and stickers are beautiful. - 4/5 - perfect remaster if you take top-end from the equation.... because too much gain like over 10-12kHZ, one some tracks percussions are too sharp to be natural plus vinyl quality is medicore. I played this vinyl like max 15 times with a great care and it's already a bit noisy and cracky
- Edited one year agoNoisy vinyl. Distorted at some points. At the beginning of side 1 there are some sort of pops that I don't have on any of my other vinyl
- Edited 3 months agoI grew up listening to this on CD in the mid-to-late 90s and, while I haven’t heard any OG pressing of this, this 2016 BG cut is close to flawless and sounds absolutely wonderful. DSD pressed well is the future of reissues anyway, once all the tapes are dead, so we’ll probably shelve our analogue stridency.
After enjoying this 2016 cut for several years and, in the spirit of finding the “iconic” analogue cuts, I bought NM copies of MoFi’s 1979 and Kevin Gray’s 2003 pressings. I admit I haven’t heard a UK OG pressing (I’m trying to get a German OG), but this 2016 sounds cleaner, fatter, and clearer than both analogue cuts I own. That’s not to say it’s the best cut out there - obviously - but it is to say these 2016 remasters are phenomenal, especially if you just want great sounding pressings of these records for a great price. I also have the 2016 cuts of WYWH and had ANIMALS, before I replaced it with the “2018” remix (which is the best version of ANIMALS to my ears due to the remix). But the 2016 ANIMALS reissue did sound great for the original mix.
You really won’t go wrong with these 2016 reissues.
Update: Finally got myself a NM '73 UK Quad seomtime in 2023. It's noisy and there's a strange static-sounding distortion in the right channel. No idea what that was. Anyway, cool to hear Parson's alternate Quad mix, which is fun and could easily have been the master, but the overall experience was annoying. I have reverted to this 2016 and the 2023 for a damn near perfect listening experience. Dead silent vinyl and terrific dynamics. The only way I'd be able to distinguish it from the supposed audiophile copies I've owned is by the dead silence of these amazing Dutch pressings. Draw your own conclusions: I'm listening on a Fluance RT85, Hana ML cart, Dynavector P75MK4.
