Reviews
- Edited 3 years agoCabanne's well known for (mostly) producing big bouncy minimalistic house tracks with rather odd underlying sonic textures mixed in for styling purposes in most of his work spreaded among a big ammount of EPs and collaborations, and whilst Discopathy has plenty of the aforementioned (My T, Nastish, Block, Pope Korn), Cabanne also steps out of his trademark approach to dance music in rather unexpected ways along the ride: slow melancolic sounding bits (Fr4), seemingly improvised beat programming developing at a random pace into recognizable house rhythms (RSO), and most noticeable, hip-hop-ish beats made out of chopped jazz tunes serving as homages to the genre and its artists, Cabanne style (MC, Dizzy, Minguz). Mr. C even drops a jazzy (yet uncredited) guitar solo at the opening track.
Set does get a bit full of itself on its later half (expected being this Cabanne's first LP attempt) but overall a strong collection of fairly straight house rhythms shuffled along material in the introspective side, all wrapped in a lovely minimalistic gatefold sleeve. Dont miss this one!
