Reviews
- Want to love this compilation as much as the earlier ones as I believe that Belgian club music is SERIOUSLY underrated - However as the series has stretched to volume 3 so the series accurately but sadly chronicles how new-beat became dodgy house (technotronic) and amphetamine soaked rave nonsense. New Beat was a fabulous genre but ultimately imploded in on itself. The fork in the road is demonstrated here and discs 3 and 4 are weaker overall. For completists and the only way to get hold of some tracks but could have been three discs for me.
- I bought one file of this CD on Beatport (P.J.istes Confocation) and this is simply a uncleaned vinyl rip. It's full of audible vinyl crackles and clicks. I haven't heard other tracks on this compilation but it's a mystery to me why a project of this size and grandeur apparently couldn't spend a small extra fee to have the vinyl rips cleaned up at least. Of course it's understandable DATs and master tapes aren't always available anymore and vinyl rips are the only way to go. Knowing that no one will ever make a compilation like this any time soon (decades probably) makes it a double shame that it wasn't done 100% right. The selection of all the volumes is exquisite and definitive. The only good thing about this, I guess, is that there is still room for great sounding 12" reissues in the future which would have been harder if this whole compilation would have sounded perfect (hoping not everything was licensed exclusively for a long period). Again, this is based on downloading one track but the crackles/clicks are so obvious and could be removed in 5 minutes so it felt very weird to notice this important part has apparently been overlooked.
