Reviews
- Edited 8 months agoProbably the most exciting compilation in terms of world music grooves. We have both Steve Monite's "only you" both Livy Ekemezie, along with other amazing tracks.
Poor quality? Well... I don't think so, or... maybe BUT I find these productions much more vibrant than many current productions. I don't care if the sound isn't absolutely clear, for me it's as if that's part of the charm of this genre.
A must have for anyone who loves funk, rare grooves, boogie or world music. - Edited one year agoGot the 2021 reissue and it's an amazing package for the price, and sound/pressing quality is great to boot. Recommended
- Just the FIRST record is so loaded [Fellas Doing It In Lagos, Don't You Know, Enjoy Your Life, Ivory.. ] that you can simply let pass Only You, but lest be honest, why would you? the people that knows it loves it, and the bast majority of public in any dancefloor around the world does not. If someone gives you "that look" you can politely ask em to cut the crap and not be so snobish, after all a party is a party and in a couple of minutes another track will be playing.
And then you have 14 [14!!!] more amazing songs to groove to, included the frentic Don't Give Up and Burning Jungle, the exquisite groove in Ore Mi, the stupidly great bassline in Don't Stop That Music, even some proto electro tracks like Be My Lady and te Lexy Mella one, etc etc etc etc.
Really, if you are a disco/funk/grooves DJ this will feed your sets for years.
The price now is far from the initial, but this is almost certainly the best compilation of this kind of music [I mean groove, not even thinking in terms of African or World or exotic or any of that shty labels] - Edited 3 years agoNice collection, but 100 bucks for a comp.. come on! play it of cd, stream.. or preorder for december 2021 repress, no need to pay these prices. good move soundway.
- Insanely high quality release. Sounds incredible, the print of the jacket is brilliant and the booklet is a nicely presented extra addition, as is the bonus 7".
Ignore the people who don't want 'singing with accents' on a Nigerian compilation album - this is worth absolutely every penny! - Definitely worth your money, very high resolution printing with the original covers on the gatefold, very cool design and some history included. Definitely worth the $28.
- Who doesn't like this super compilation has probably bad taste or can't dance it in a cool way hehe
Lot of masterpiece in here, first of all the "only you" from "Steve monite" !
