Show All 32 Reviews- Edited 2 months agoI’m only repeating what has already been written, but you can add another 5 ⭐️ review to the pile. Everything I expected, and more - I have only ever seen multiple posts in record forums about this album, and never heard it. Yes it’s twelve different interpretations of Radiohead’s “How to Disappear Completely”, but wow, what a journey. Flawless from start to finish - everyone involved in this project; including the manufacturers of this album, have delivered the perfect LP. This is the benchmark that the industry should strive for.
- Edited one month agoEverything here works beautifully: Godrich's micro-tronic/George Martin sheen is applied to a post-grunge and alt-country songbook, with nary a sighting of Beck's goofball raps and dollar store breakbeats of past albums. In fact, an early 30's Beck sings with a melancholic sincerity which is, at times, devastating. He tracks as a narcotic Kurt Cobain or Chris Cornell, only to then remake the landscape as Nick Drake or Towns VZ, as Godrich sees fit. The mastering is rich and balanced, letting all the disparate parts and players be heard and understood. The pressing is essentially silent. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.
- I did listen to a proper digital version of this a couple of times and thought that sounded really, really good - wondered whether it would actually be worth it getting it on vinyl.
Finally bought it, and I have to say that I put the record on earlier today, and when it started playing I was seriously just standing there in front of the turntable for a while, just thinking "wow..." - wouldn't really like to say whether it's "better" than the digital, but it's certainly amazing - and a bit different.
Different in a way that plays the strengths of the format really well, you immediately know this has been done by people who know their shit, and who did make sure it's top notch.
Beautiful, heavy discs, in padded sleeves, super clean right out of the box (did play pretty much perfect without any pre-cleaning nonsense).
Sound is very big, vast at times. Beautiful. Golden. Instruments sound natural and amazing, the sound of Beck's voice is breathtaking in some moments.
I agree with many others here, it's easily one of the best sounding records in my collection. - I'm wondering if anyone has compared this pressing to the Mofi version? If so, would love to hear your opinion.
- Edited 10 months agoI got US version by some miracle a couple months back n sounded incredible n I’ve since upgraded my platter n stylus by a lot and this album. The US version had some pops n scratches but still really dynamic. Then i just hit this German press and it is flawless and somehow even better sounding. Great pallete cleanser and test to see if another record you’re listening to is a great mastering/pressing. Might sound crazy but I feel pretty lucky to have this album n run. I never even fully liked the songs on this but wow the vinyl hype about it is very accurate. Might be one of the best sounding albums i have including really refined mofi albums. Its so good and i was extremely lucky to find two versions brand new. If they repress this in the same quality, every vinyl collector needs it
- A ridiculously full-sounding, clean and nuanced sounding pressing. One of the best sounding records I own. Such a beautifully mixed and produced album done justice on vinyl.
