First time playing this one, it has quite a lot of noise/crackles. It's probably dirt and will most likely get better after spinning it multiple times. But also, it's mastered really quiet so you'll have to crank up the volume pretty high. Then, the mastering in general isn't so great as well; especially the angelic vocals tend to distort a bit here and there. Just a little bit, but it's there.
Although the movie isn't my favorite, this score/soundtrack is beautiful and even with a pressing that's a bit flawed it's still a pleasure to listen to. But I was expecting a bit better from MoV since every other MoV record I own is almost perfect in ways of production, mastering and pressing.
Great pressing, no surface noise, very clean sound. Gatefold laminated sleeve and additional booklet is highy quality. Must have for soundtrack and James Horner lovers.
This black version is actually the best sound version.(some rare pop but no much in comparaison whit others version, etc) Its funny because, its the only non limited version...
AND according to Music on Vinyl website, they're releasing it again but, on transparent vinyl. Marketing.. love it or hate it. .my black vinyl copy is just fine.
Just to clarify, this appears to be the same as the limited gold, white, grey or blue pressings in packaging and musical content. I believe the only difference is that it is not individually numbered and is pressed on regular black vinyl instead.
So far I have listened to Side 1 of the first disc. I found the sound quality somewhat disappointing. The low-end is excellent, reproducing the lowest booms and thuds very similarly as you would hear them on the DTS-HD Master Audio track on the blu-ray disc release of the film. The treble is, however, rather flat and dull.
I couldn't help noticing that the music appears to be recorded on the vinyl at a significantly lower volume than other records. This means you will have to crank up the volume on your hi-fi or AV receiver, amplifying any ticks and pops as well as other surface noise along the way. You will not appreciate this during quiet sequences in the music.
This is the first time I have purchased the Titanic soundtrack. I wonder if I should I have just gone with the simpler CD release. Hmm ...
