Reviews
- repress of the music only is on the way (not a coil or threshold house release) but the artwork is rather lame unfortunately.
- Edited 9 years agoWhat is the holiness?
What is happiness?
What makes the conjunction of the two?
Perhaps the conjunction of them all are the door to the understanding of the divine?
Perhaps we will never know and we are just walking in circles trying to find the truth about it, trapped in our limited understandings on reality and "truth" with our logic and "reasonable" standards anchored in morality and preconceptions. These are a series of thoughts and ideas i had after watching this work.
The sum of the audiovisual with the music included in this work intensely enhances the effect it originaly provokes, it does trascends the documental and subtly introduces us in some sort of spiritual journey where all jurisdictions on moral valorations or preconceptions slowly get eroded by the intense aura of beatitude perceived.
The author does not just shows once again his genious via the music he is capable to create or re-integrate as all the sounds were taken from real manifestations but he is able also to transmit something distilled from it, some strange essence that is primordial and holy, pervading all with its touch.
The simplicity from the images result pretty languid in the first instance, but summed with the music and the magnificency it achieves during the development of each track then each frame acquires the sense and its power and even though for some people, some of the scenes described may look gruesome and perhaps massochistic, when perceived within the pace of the soundtrack, everything seems natural and elevated. All the pain of the flesh becomes some kind of joy, and all the ruthless matter some sort of ethereal form.
Track by track this is a simple story revealed, the development of a ritual that in the end remains a mystery to the viewer veiled by his own judgements or ideas. A holy transgression of pain in pursue of holiness i may adventure to call it.
Nevertheless and aside from any philosophical disgression, the music is extreme in the very sense of the word. The digitalized mantras along with the ethereal synths and glitch effects, the strange sonorities created by the odd instrumentation grants a vivid experience of mystery, pain, happiness and beatitude that trascends contradictions. It is a work of pure magic and surgical precision, where minimal details matter and where synchrony takes a great stand whenever image takes part of it.
This is a good epitaph for the work of a genious. - Edited 10 years agoBeautiful. Immense but languid. This is peaceful marked by the regulated succession of strong and weak elements of opposite & different conditions. Forlorn joy. Hope. BD
- I think this album is in every way the spiritual successor to Coil's later more electronic output. It has a new flavour with eastern influences which I'm sure Sleazy has taken from his new locale, but this shares the the same mysitcal musical philosophy: alchemic vocals and glitched up synths. It's one of the best albums I've heard for a while and definitely one of the most focused albums to come out to the Coil camp.
I'd recommend this to anyone into IDM, classical and anything in between.
Coil are dead, long live Coil!!
