- Edited 3 years agoI’ve got the vinyl which sadly drops a lot of the tracks, including probably the best track on the album Miguel B & Odyssey - Ellegua which remains criminally unreleased. nonetheless there’s some mighty break science going on here. Alaska and Paradox out Source Direct, Source Direct with some mesmerising drums and strange mood. Killer.
Pariah’s ‘sub zero’ starts with firecracker drums and a swelling ambient background against which synths and pads glide. Sounds a bit like what Pete Namlook would sound if he was a Junglist. Another genius track. It’s worth it for these two alone.
But the best saved till last, Total Science ‘Fractionz’ and Odyssey’s ‘Nextgen’
Oh boy, where to start?
Both tracks made by masters of their art, amazing hypnotic, inventive sound collages of refracted light and melody, all tied to peerless rhythm work, while still maintaining a bit of a gritty edge. So It doesn’t round out everything into coffee table blandness.
In short, buy on sight!
Stunning to think these tunes are just under 25 years old. They sound so fresh, like they were made yesterday.
Make no mistake, there is a wealth of undiscovered and unheard music from this golden era of drum and bass out there. Quite a bit of it relatively cheap, if you know where to look...... - Does anyone know if this version is a compilation on CD 1 rather than a DJ mix?
The Japan version states comp, plus track lengths stated on both also suggest this.
