- Total total shock here.....not single barcode on lhe labels....WB really let the retailers down on this one! obviously i am being very sarcastic' just so pleasing to see a label not spoilt or defaced by such a pointless and needless intrusion
- This record continues to skip no matter what I do. I have tried two different players. Maybe it's my copy?
- I have delayed my further investigation from what I believe to be a very rare U.S. "Vogue" release. The A-side is the regular catalog # 7-19863, 4:19 Single Version pressing, but the B-side is the Back to Back Hits pressing of "Papa Don't Preach," catalog # 7-21986 and not the Bette Davis Dub 7:24 version. I'm going to see if MadonnaRecords.com will allow me to post a short video clip of me showing both sides for verification. I'm wondering in anyone else has a copy of this or knows someone I can contact to see just how rare this pressing truly is.
- I have been playing the Bette Davis Dub out, cold from the beginning for 26 years now. Say no more. Shep's bassline is montrous on a half decent system. A+++ and then some.
- Edited 9 years agoWith a worldwide rollout of a new dance called the "the Vogue," we can enjoy "taking a pose" and moving with every beat… Check out the great video, too! When you feel like a rogue, do the "Vogue!"
- Edited 10 years agoMadonna's greatest, one of my first musical memories and definitely one of my all time faves.
"Vogue" was Madonna's take on the 'vogueing' craze, in particular, at New York City's Soundfactory where Madonna's estranged friend Junior Vasquez held reign every Saturday from midnight untill at least midday Sunday from 1989 till 1995.
Produced by Shep Pettibone, "Vogue" has a distinct Def-Mix vibe to it with it's David Morales-esque drum programming, Knuckles/ Kupper/ Tomiie style pianos & keys and dubby stabs reminiscent of early 90s Danny Tenaglia.
"Vogue" has been surrounded by controversy of late due to sampling of strings/ horns and vocals from Salsoul Orchestra's "Love Break" (ironically, which Shep Pettibone remixed in 1983) and sampling the baseline from MFSB's "Love Is The Message".
The 12" Mix is great and so are the two dubs but in my opinion, with it's eerie opening chords, the Album Mix is just THE perfect classy NYC house-pop record. Pops finest hour.
Ladies with an attitude
Fellows that were in the mood
Don't just stand there, let's get to it
Strike a pose, there's nothing to it! - Edited 19 years agoMadonna's career has been littered with many hit-and-miss affairs, but when she hit the bullseye, man, did she rock. 'Vogue' is considered by many to be her greatest ever single moment (dance-oriented or otherwise) and if one were inclined, one could even go as far to call it a House classic, despite its obvious commercial trappings (and success). Very much of its time, it even stood up well amongst the underground House of the same period, and some 15 years later, has aged quite well. Major credit goes to producer Shep Pettibone, who injected Madonna's original premise of a dance track with lyrics in tribute to the Hollywood stars of old with an authentic Chicago sound (c.1990). God knows she's since made many attempts to capture the magic of it, Madonna is hard-pressed to ever equal the magic and style that is 'Vogue'.
