- Fantastic sound, in my opinion. Each track sounds sublime, with a great soundscape and no flaws present in the master. Really cheap too
- Bernie Grundman, the grandmaster of vinyl mastering.
I would like to spend some money to buy some cool albums, not finding an old copy of this one. No need probably. - This sounds absolutely sensational to me. This is one of my favourite albums (by anyone), so I had considered getting a 45RPM APM just to do it justice, but after hearing this, I don't need to. I'm perfectly happy with this. It's a little bass light but that's just the nature of the recording - even an Analogue Productions pressing won't fix that. This is perfect to me otherwise.
- Once again a Doors repress is excellent quality. A good, solid slab of wax. Quiet between tracks with a really clear sound. Good separation and clarity. No need for an OG with these represses around.
- Edited one year agoReally been a Grundman fan, but since 2008/ 2009 it seems he does not hear certain range anymore? All these releases lack low midths/ bass. Chris Bellman's cuts don't. Sounds like it's done for the modern market, many people may be happy, sadly I am not. First album, by the way, sounds great in this series.
Maybe audiophiles want it this way, I'd like a bit more dirt instead... A livlier sound. Amen.
All true what Steve-70s said... sadly. - Bernie Grundman sure knows how to cut records. Mind blowing sound. I can highly recommend this pressing.
Equipment: Quested VS2108 (pair), V2108 (pair), Quested SB10R Sub, Mackie MS1202VLZPro mixer (modified), RP40, Aria Mk3 RIAA, Ania Pro Stylus. - BEWARE VARIANT 1 MATRIX!
I went through 2 copies from 2 different stores in town and they both have the exact scratchy staticky sound that is audible throughout especially during quieter tracks and intros. Even after a good wet-vac cleaning the horrible scratchy sounds still exist on both A & B sides. One thing I can definitely confirm is that both of these pressings are of the “Variant 1 Matrix” as listed in the ID section of Discogs.
But now here’s the weird part! If I turn off my turntable motor and play the record backwards it significantly cleans up most of the surface noise. I didn’t do this with the entire record just on a few tracks where the surface noise took over the level of the music. When I would play back through these “cleaned up” groove sections it was like night and day so maybe I will try this with one of the copies and see what happens and take the other copy back. But really, do we have to go to such extremes for a clean copy of a sealed brand new record?!?!
