- Edited 20 days agoThis is the very height of the nonsense that came out of the IDM scene. Yeah, I know, a lot of the artists said they weren't intelligent, the name was given to them by music journalists; apparently it was just dance music, but who can dance to most of Aphex Twin's stuff post 95 with its disjointed beats? Anyway, back to BoC.
What is the point of this release? Maybe if all of the records were found we would know, but it is definitely leaning heavily into fart sniffing territory. Is BoCs music worthy of all this mystique? It is ambient lo-fi washes with pretty basic trip hop beats in the background. Nice enough, but hardly deserving the fanfare and adulation that goes along with the group.
They give next to nothing away about what all the cloak and dagger business is about; the music is hardly groundbreaking, there are plenty of so called 'releases' they have made in the early days that don't actually seem to exist....what is going on here, beyond something being blown out of all proportion for marketing purposes?
I remember seeing a website about the time of this album dedicated to BoC, which read more like a conspiracy theory site than anything else. It was attempting to decipher all the weird names and codes, with references to radio frequencies and such (reply if you have the address for this site, it'd be interesting to see what was said again)
Ultimately, the mystique outweighs the music; who remembers this release or cares what it was supposed to mean now, if it ever meant anything at all?
A mystery wrapped in an enigma is only worthwhile if there is some intrigue to go with it. - Is this actually a RSD release? The copies were secretly put in record shops by Warp Records staff. They were not announced by Warp, inventoried by distributors, ordered in by the shop owners/ managers, or sent through their usual supply chain.
- Do people understand what this even is? It's not a release or a song... it's a clue... and this could also serve as a lesson for discogs users as 39 people 'have this'... there was only 6 ever pressed...
- I will say, kudos to the boys at Hexagon Sun, 10 years later and y’all are still whining and complaining about this release. Remember there is a great big world out there just waiting to be explored while you listen to more Boards of Canada. Dont EVER let THEM stop you from listening to Boards of Canada. If you can be told what you can see or read, then it follows that you can be told what to say or think. Defend your constitutionally protected rights, No one else will do it for you!
Thank you - Edited one year agoBloated cost and fabricated mystique aside, how does this have an average rating of 3.18? Who is giving this anything above 1 star? What about this release merits more than one star?
A 12" record can have up to 44 minutes of music, so this record is less than 2% full. Unless those 40 seconds are the greatest 40 seconds of music known to mankind, this does not deserve a 2 star rating, let alone 5.
I'm thinking a bunch of you are not very honest; you heard the release recorded and uploaded online, have never seen a copy in person, and decided it deserves as high a rating as any of their full-length albums. If you say so.
Since the duo haven't done anything else in 10 years, I think it's safe to think that this was their way of cutting loose from their music. I think ending with Tomorrow's Harvest would've been a grander send-off, but that's just me. - Probably the dumbest vinyl release I've ever seen. Amazed to see what makes people throw their money away.
- yeah sure...right... (?).... 4 or 6 should exist, 37(!) users "have" it.
- Single-Sided
- 40 seconds of music
- Sold for €2,299.99
This ain't collecting any more, this is insane if not even simply stupid
Sorry, simply stupid.... - This is a staple of my DJ sets. It took a while to find two copies on vinyl, but it was worth it. I heard Tiesto is doing a remix that extends the track to a full TWO MINUTES. Insanity.
