- I recently got one of these as part of a large lot and it sold on Discogs shortly after I listed it. The buyer says that three of the records were "swapped out" later and aren't part of the original set because the colors don't match. It's of course possible but I think very unlikely and remain unconvinced. My question is: is anyone aware of instances where the vinyl color was different than what's listed? Specifically, "Prolonging the Magic" is translucent blue, not cream. The other two the buyer claims are wrong, in my opinion, are fine, they just don't understand the vagaries of colored vinyl and are looking to bolster their case for returning the order.
Also, assuming one record was swapped out in the box by the previous owner, is that grounds for rejecting the order? - i really hope these all get released on vinyl individually and not limited, kinda shocking that prolonging the magic and comfort eagle have never been pressed until this box
- My buddy was complaining that the records were noisy and sounded like shit. I don’t think he ever listened to them after he bought them long ago. I thought they might have been scuffed by the awful cardboard inner sleeves. But I’ve just run them all through a Degritter ultrasonic cleaner, and they are completely quiet with zero surface noise/distortion and sound amazing on my system. There might have been some poorly pressed copies, but he got a good one that just sounded bad due to contaminates. FYI, it is the blue version of Prolonging the Magic, so the repress version according to the comments here. In any case, if you have one that’s noisy, it may just need a good cleaning.
- Edited 2 years agoAs I had this box in my hands again today I came to the idea...It might be like a diary to my son to commit: this was actually my first rsd back in 2014 in berlin coming back from China. a new record shop opened at that time in berlin —still exists — and I gave everything to advice them in advance —if —if they will get one copy of this box — please (!) — keep it for me — and they did — they got one copy for some nowadays ridiculous cheap 120 euros (think about it). I think — back then— i wrote that. actually less then 10 copies arrived in germany. it was the jackpot for me as a true passionate record collector since 1984. the holy gray. Perhaps a really boring story to read here, but I like to write it down again because— who knows — some 40 years later my son will read this note again. Today — we are in 2022 —this kind of box would be sold for some 400 euros and even more On a rsd day— just 8 years later. Everything here has changed. it is without any doubt a beautiful manufactured box.
- Edited 2 years agoCaved and opened this sucker......fan for years, so glad I finely opened it. Been so tough to resist for so long!! Other say so many sound issues ?? Must have got lucky, these all sound incredible, in my case anyway. Worth a premium for being so rare, but unfortunate it is so tough to attain these records, still.
- I was fortunate to get one of these on RSD 2014 at retail price. It's a great, great set, but I will offer this warning before you make a decision on buying: I had to get quite a few of the albums replaced due to non-fill, visible particles/pieces of cardboard in the vinyl, and noisy pressings. Quality control was a bit lacking. CAKE management was nice enough to replace the copies I had issues with.
