Two Deejays (2) – Real Mothafucka

I think it would be fair to say that a lot of Tiesto's early hardcore releases are not that strong. And this EP mostly follows this pattern (as the ratings suggest), but I do think the A side is an exception here. It doesn't start out great, with a weird jaunty whistling sample from god knows where - but that introduces a killer half-speed hoover riff, before the sample "moves we make, gonna make the earth shake" introduces the tune proper. It's still not perfect - the kick is a little flat - but the main riff really saves it for me. It was a long-standing ID for many years for me, mostly due to Bass Generator playing it on a few sets in 1996 - and I was quite surprised when I discovered who made it.

Although I still don't know why they chose the name "Two Deejays" when 3 producers are credited!
