Notes

Note: This monaural jukebox EP plays at 33 (not 45) revolutions per minute. The second photo shows other volumes in the same 1961 Capitol Compact 33 Double series, which consisted of 18 monophonic volumes, each containing two tracks per side. Creating its own series, RCA released even more, generally featuring the most popular artists' of their roster (Harry Belafonte, Sam Cooke, Perry Como, Elvis Presley, etc.). Capitol and RCA were just experimenting with a new format that Parkway Records had introduced in May of that year. The format did not prove a success, and Capitol's 33 compact double series was thus promptly discontinued. In addition to Martin and Sinatra, other acts who had their own issues in the Capitol series were Ray Anthony, Les Baxter, Nat King Cole, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Les Paul With Mary Ford, Stan Freeberg, Andy Griffin, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Stan Kenton, The Kingston Trio, Guy Lombardo And The Royal Canadians, Louis Prima With Keely Smith, Hank Thompson, and The Roger Wagner Chorale. The only solo female artists to have their own volumes in the series were Peggy Lee and Kay Starr. (Notice that I am referring to this specific Capitol series, with its distinctive front cover artwork, consisting of the artist's photo in one half or the cover, and identifying text against a white background in the other half. Though the compact 33 double series did not catch on, the format lived with minor variations, in the form of what came to be called little LPs -- stereo 33 rpm jukebox EPs with a minimum of six songs.)
