Discogs & GPSR: Supporting Sellers Through the New Regulations
The EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) is now in effect – and Discogs has you covered.
Compliance might sound like a chore, but with Discogs’ powerful discography database and the support of our incredible seller and label community, we’re making this as seamless as possible. Whether you’re listing vinyl from major labels or curating niche indie gems, we’re here to help you meet these requirements with minimal fuss.
What is the GPSR?
The GPSR requires business sellers to disclose contact details for the label behind a release when selling to customers in the EU and Northern Ireland. This ensures transparency and compliance across all online marketplaces. The new rules take effect December 13, 2024.
If the label is based outside of the EU or Northern Ireland, an EU Responsible Person must also be listed.
Meeting Requirements is Easy with Discogs
We worked with our friends in the music industry, including IFPI, to gather as much contact information as possible. Our team has already added this info to over 1,000 label profiles in our discography database — and counting! — so the required details are automatically available on your marketplace listings, ensuring that many of them are already GPSR-compliant without extra effort on your part.
How You Can Help
The music industry is vast, and there are always blanks to fill in. Your expertise and contributions can make a huge difference, especially for smaller, independent labels. Here’s how you can lend a hand:
- Check for Missing Information: Visit the label profile for the release in question and look for a section titled Manufacturer Contact; this is where GPSR-required information is stored.
- Add or Update Details: If information is missing, select to edit and add the required contact details. For labels outside the EU or Northern Ireland, don’t forget to include an EU Responsible Person if applicable.
- Spread the Word: Share this guide with fellow sellers and labels you work with. The more collaborative the effort, the stronger our marketplace becomes.
How to Update Label Profiles
- Search for the label profile of the release you’re working with.
- Locate the “Manufacturer Contact” Section within the profile.
- Select “Edit” to add or adjust the GPSR-requirement information:
- Full label name
- Address
- Contact information (email or phone number)
- EU Responsible Person (if applicable)
- Save changes.
Ready to Get Started?
Let’s make sure every release in the marketplace is ready to meet these new standards. Your efforts don’t just help with GPSR — they strengthen the accuracy and reliability of our discography database, which benefits sellers and collectors worldwide.
Thank you for everything you do. This is yet another way we’re building a stronger, more transparent community together.
