Bop Style Overview
Bop Music Description
Uptempo, improvisational form of jazz that emerged as an offshoot of Swing in the 1940's. Served as an antithesis to the Swing / Big Band sound that was popular at the time by focusing on harmonies instead of melodies. Features complex chord progressions and freeform improvisation.
Also known as "bebop."
