Powerviolence (sometimes written as power violence) is an extremely dissonant and fast subgenre of hardcore punk which is closely related to thrashcore and grindcore. Musically, Powerviolence often reaches the speed of grindcore, but does without metal influences. Elements of the music are the use of blast beats and frequent changes in tempo. A lot of distortion is used and the music is often experimental. The subscene includes a radical left stance and DIY influences.
