-> DJ Phoney's brand spanking new Psych-Funk single "Spiderbite" has been released April 4, 2019 (digital release plus ltd vinyl of only 66 copies - now sold out) !!! <-
DJ Phoney - Spiderbite

A dedicated DJ and musician, DJ Phoney had over 500 live performances on the wheels of steel and produced countless tracks with HipHop and Reggae-artists like EmCee Lynx, Eduardo, International Criminal, Ernest Drake, Rich and Son of Nun.

His style and musical interest ranges from early industrial, noise and breakcore to Trueschool-Hiphop, from Classic Funk to 70´s Roots-Reggae and Dub, Jazz to Northern Soul, obscure Rare Grooves, early US Harcore-Punk to 70´s Rock, etc. etc. etc.
His own record collection spans about 6.000 vinyl-records, CD´s and tapes.

Phoney's interest in music goes hand in hand with an interest in social and political circumstances surrounding any form of music.

He ran the Phoney Tapes-label, that spannned over 30 releases until beginning of 2008 (among featured artists/dj's were fangkiebassbeton, Ernest Drake, DJ Bass T, Tiva, Rolf Kistenich and others).

In 2008 he opened his own recordstore called Drake Records in Cologne which also serves as headquarter for a small and dedicated label by the same name.

Drake Records has since put out 11 releases (from DJ Phoney, Ernest Drake and hope estate - incl. remixes by Audio Pervert, Larsson, Thompson and Bob Humid).
DRAKORDS012 will follow in April 2019.

My copy has these issues too. Dimples/pressing bubbles - typical JA pressing default (though this is a UK press).
Mine has a song with 3 skips in it.
Had one other copy at my store - similar bad quality.
I doubt there's proper ones.

Rare german wave/NDW private pressing including two cool Talking Heads-coversongs ("Psychokiller" + "Städte" [og "Cities"]) and a totally stunning version of DEVO's "Mongoloid" (both in german), also one of their own tunes "Autonome Einheit" is a great ... See full review

Contemporary music got to be authentic and exciting, otherwise it's totally irrelevant to me.
Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats prove so much of it, that a single song of this band weighs more than 80% of all records jamming in this very genre.

Sometimes it takes quite a while until a piece of art gets the recognition it deserves.
And I’m not sure if the only selftitled album by swiss band GRAUZONE gets it’s recognition now but there seems to be a bit more awareness.

Instead of getting to the climax instantly here´s a bit of musical background that`s helpful in understanding the reviewed record:

One of the nicest things about the 60´s and 70´s was that so many guidelines were ignored and many borders have been ... See full review

A forgotten gem, this album delievers one of the best guitar-rocking approaches on Hip Hop ever (in my opinion). Subtle instead of the usual crossover.
Thoughtful lyrics with a fantastic flow, a grooving bass (from slapping to grooving chords and ... See full review

Ninja Tune released this stunning album in 2007 although it was recorded in 1969/70 (and never actually released back then). That raises the question how is it possible that again and again music as great as this gets lost for decades?

Relatively new to Warp Records bibio has already been putting out releases for Mush Records. But with this album he’s defnitely making a statement that can’t be ignored.
