Since 1941, the Friends has been guided by a commitment to advocacy and engagement supporting the Library and literacy. Over the years we’ve sponsored programs supporting childhood literacy, overseas service personnel, incarcerated populations, communities requiring increased accessibility, Title I classrooms, and more. You will continue to see our work supporting Library programs and services, our First Library Card program, and in our FriendShop, which will continue to operate out of the Central Library.
Our Mission Statement
The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our Library as an essential institution of society. Our volunteer members advocate, educate, and raise funds on behalf of the Library, its patrons, and the larger Seattle community.

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library started contributing to the Discogs database, and selling music through the Discogs marketplace in 2014.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were forced to cease our online music sales in 2020. We are no longer able to hold our annual Huge Book Sale in Seattle during the spring, which is when we raised most of our funds to cover operations costs, so we had to drastically cut back on all of our fundraising efforts.
We would like to thank all of our one-time customers, and especially the many repeat customers who have purchased thousands of CDs, DVDs and even a few cassettes from us. We appreciate all the support, kind comments, and feedback that you have given us. With your purchases, we have been able to follow our mission to support The Seattle Public Library, which benefits the entire community at large.
We hope that we have been able to make good and meaningful contributions to the Discogs database, and helped Discogs toward its goal “to build the biggest and most comprehensive music database and marketplace”. Along the way, we like to think that we have helped people to discover new music, and to build their music collections.
Even if you are not in Seattle, we encourage everyone to patronize, get involved, and support your local library.
You are all superstars!!
Thank you,
Friends of The Seattle Public Library
