I am a long time hardcore/jungle/drum & bass DJ/collector, and I've also released music under the name Counterweight in conjunction with [Invalid Artist]. We put tunes out on Function, Shift Music (2), and UnderGround Soundz Special Edition.

I collect & play all kinds of music, including: hardcore/jungle/drum & bass, house, techno, downtempo, hip hop, "commercial" dance music, rock, punk rock, etc...

I am open to selling/trading records from my "For Sale" list:

... for records in my wantlist (I'd buy these too):

In some cases I may sell records from my collection, so ask me & we'll see.

I like this track (Warning), but for me the piano bit is the deal sealer. I actually wish it continued on for a bit longer with the breaks and bass helping it along.

I agree as well.
I compare this release to the first two records on the Photek label. One side is a smashing amen tune, while the other is a "mellower" spacey number.

Sunset Over Stevenage is an underrated tune. It has similar off kilter beats, pads, and bass like Helicopter Tune, but with the addition of a piano line even Nookie/Cloud 9 would be proud of. Don't sleep on this one any longer.

Beats Track shows that when Foul Play weren't completely nailing it (Being With You, Drowning In Her, We Are The Future), they came really damn close. A fine addition to their long line of excellent tunes. The EZ Rollers remix of Being With You is ... See full review

Have you ever noticed how Deranged (both mixes) sound quite similar to Krispy Krouton - Chicken & Sweetcorn?
posted a comment on Atlantic Connection - Situations / Don't Love You. 4 months ago
Situations is a near perfect example of deep liquid funk drum & bass.
The beats are simple and tough. The bass is deep and forceful.
The keys are emotive, effective, and drive the tune on.
The vocals are minimal, and chopped in and out of the mix.

Completely agreed here. Revolution is a deep and energetic roller.

I completely agree here. The A1 cut is the tune on this release.

I feel this record only gets better with age. I bought it upon release, and I liked it. I didn't play it much in sets though. Now, every time I listen to it, it only sounds more and more fitting with everything good that has come after it.

This album is 27 years old. No comment? OK. This record hit me in the chest upon release, and still remains a pleasure to listen to to this day. A (perfect?) blend of wall of noise with power pop/punk, complete with catchy harmonies and clever ... See full review

I actually prefer the version of Warpdrive on this release over the original version. Both are obviously massive tracks, and if you can grab copies of both editions then you're laughing.

Nah. I just re-listened to the Youtube clips here. These tracks are just scattered and unfocused. It sounds like they tried to do what Acen or Hyper On Experience could do well, but these guys didn't succeed in my opinion. The drums are sloppy as well.
posted a comment on Underground Software - Different Ting. 8 months ago
Different Ting is the best cut here. You've got energetic shuffling beats, interchanged with some half time stepping. Then you get interchanging synth stabs with some uplifting pads. Finally, the switch from female vocals back and forth with the ragga ... See full review

I agree with you completely. I bought this EP second hand while visiting London, UK, based on knowing the Sunny-Side Up EP. I was not impressed, and passed it on to someone else in short order. Oh well.

Suburban Base was a bit crap at the very tail end of '93 and the start of '94, but they sorted it out later that year and into 1995.
However, I really love this particular release!

Full Throttle is the last tune that connects The Prodigy with the hardcore scene, that eventually went on to become the jungle/drum&bass genre. For this I hold Full Throttle up there with the best of The Prodigy's work.

Probably the best Total Science/Q Project release that wasn't released under either of the more recognizable monikers.
Great breaks, bass, and old school stabs & vibes.
Please also see Tropic on Genetic Stress Recordings.

Alex Reece knows how to chop up beats.

Underrated (and currently low-priced) Source Direct material from their early '94-'95 peak. Remixes released under their Sounds Of Life alias. Snap it up while you can.

No comment? This one is just really good. No amens. Just nice vibes. The Oaysis track slightly edges the Alliance track.

A couple of local record shop owners here in Ottawa used a NYC based distributor (alongside Montreal and Toronto based distributors), and brought in a tonne of Lucky Spin, DeeJay, Intalektive, Force Ten, etc. at that same time (late 90's, early 2000's). ... See full review

"Deep Bass 9" by JMJ & Richie sounds like a remix of "Tear Into It" by Parallel World (aka JMJ & Richie). Listen to them both and hear for yourself.

This mix is quite possibly one of the best mixtapes I own. The tracks are all anthems (+ a few lesser knowns) from the golden era of rave/XL Recordings, the mixing is spot on (I believe there's some 3 deck action too), and it just flowwwwwws from style ... See full review

This record still doesn't have a comment, and that's just not right. Played in virtually *every* set Top Buzz ever did, "I Get A Chill" is among the best of the rare hardcore gems out there.

This EP sits nicely between 1992 & 1993, style wise. It's quite striped down and minimal, like a lot of 1993 releases. But at the same time, several tracks ("Yeah", "Me Want Sound") have some serious riffs & stabby patterns giving them that rushy 1992 ... See full review

After hearing "Illusions" on a mix, I had to go pick this LP up immediately. This tune stands as one of the finest releases from 2005, and of recent jungle/drum & bass in general. Nicely chopped breaks that still step to their groove, grimey-rude bass, ... See full review

NHS (Disco remix) is easily in my top 5 jungle/drum & bass tunes of all time. Rugged drum programming, sub bass, emotive strings/auras, and that piano line. I can't say how many times I've (gladly) had this stuck in my head. Heard on many, many rave ... See full review
