Bowie fan since I got the bug in '72. Rekindled my interest in collecting again after visiting the 'David Bowie is' exhibition in London at the V and A in June 2013. A few nagging gaps in my 700+ Bowie collection that I am now filling on Discogs. I won't pay stupid prices but if the goods are graded properly I don't mind paying a fair price to the seller. I pride myself on prompt payment and communication and just expect in return good customer care, quick dispatch and reasonably prompt replies to questions etc.

Note that I also have large collection of vinyl, cassette and CDs not just Bowie covering a whole gamut of other artists and genres: classical, jazz, soul, rock, pop, disco/dance, world music etc. but at present I have neither the time or the inclination to add them to the database. Either that or I'm just a lazy sod!

Wouldn’t it make sense to create a ‘series’ classification for this plus the Outside release that tied into the London leg of the David Bowie Is exhibition and the subsequent special vinyls that were released as the exhibition moved around the world?

there are four different coloured discs. Red. Blue. Yellow & Green

Do we know yet whether it’s 6K of each colour or divided by the 4 colours at a run of 1,500 for each?

It has meaning: Bowie’s own picture (uncredited) of his then new born daughter’s hand plus his artwork so pretty apt for both the tracks, the release on his birthday and close to 5th anniversary of his dying.

Some copies of this still available via davidbowie.com but the second in the series, No Trendy Réchauffé, has sold out. Therefore, if you want this at cost price then get you bum into gear!

[quote=Mattatall] It offers the original gatefold concept (including title) as conceived and approved by Bowie himself (but was rejected by the record company). It's a nice package for $20, with a remix that will obviously receive mixed reviews. I... See full review

Is there a way to mute the abhorrent sax? Good lord, it's abysmal.

All a matter of taste: I’m very partial to the saxophone and Mr Sanborn’s horn blowing in particular. This has also been raised on the vinyl release by some... See full review

[quote=blutroniq] I read your comment before hearing the album. As I listening through it, I kept chuckling at just how much sax is on this. Your SNL comparison is apt... Sanborn is all over this, and he was part of the SNL band at one point.... See full review

I've been streaming it off and on now for months on Spotify. I shall never grow tired of its acoustic shinyness! :)

Totally agree 110% with the review below. It is very rare indeed that someone covers the master and gets close or equal to him: such rarities as Mott The Hoople, Billy MacKenzie or Philip Glass for example. This is definitely one of them. Haven’t... See full review

Great music especially Bowie’s title track, a great book as source material, it looked great so what went wrong at the box office? Oh I forgot two words: Patsy and Kensit! 😈

Probably because MOV pressings are considered to be of excellent quality while other brands are not that well regarded. Hope that helps.

If your certain Ian then you should report this to admin as it’s naughty: the rules are clear only images should be posted to database of the item owned by that individual and therefore having copyright of the image.

I ordered it straight off of the back of the announcement on Bowie’s website when it was a 5K pressing and still only got number 1,075 with subsequent demand then upping it to 10K. Therefore, those who think they may pick it up at a bargain price... See full review

I wonder if the band really listened to the lyrics on this before recording it and clocked the gay content? :)

Both cuts sound like early demos of the songs, which gives them a certain charm although they both need a little polishing.

Gave this a three star rating based on this being a collector’s curiousity piece rather than the listening experience, as the sound is extremely ropey. More for the specialist collector rather than a casual listener.

If there is no number on the sticker then I would very much doubt the provenance of any item for sale.

Given the rarity of this, not a hit the first time around, and the previous noted propensity of dealers to try and pass off the ‘73 reissue as a ‘67 original, now clearly explained on the database, then I think it’s fair to comment that a good number... See full review

Much under rated album. In fact some of the stand out tracks would not, in my opinion, have been out of place years later on ‘The Next Day’ such as Baby Universal’ or ‘You Belong In Rock ‘N’ Roll’. Based on the LP I totally agree with Florence And The... See full review

Thanks for the reply. I have just checked and £25 in today’s prices allowing for inflation is about £87.50. This by the way is a really handy tool, as it can help out when you are buying or keeping a track on the price you initially paid and what it... See full review

Easily the stand out and best track on the source album, which let’s face it is by far by Bowie’s standards his most mediocre solo effort.

Does any one remember the original retail price on this item? A friend insists it was £100, which in today’s money is over £340! I somewhat doubt this.

Bolan did did play the guitar solo on it and legend has it that he deliberately under-cooked the guitar solo to sabotage the track coming out of the well know mutual musical rivalry and jealously between him and Bowie. What are those artistic types... See full review
