The Stroke (2) - He's Gone Madison-chan

July 17, 2019
Information from Barb Jungr (the female singer):

"That's me and my then husband Dan Bowling, it's the first song I wrote and recorded and played bass, and Dan played all the there instruments and recorded and produced it. Danny Baker gave it "Single of the Week - I think" in the NME cos he thought it/we, so weird. It came out on CBS via the A and R man Howard Thompson. It was recorded in a studio at the back of a bacon factory in West Kensington!"

Best Italo-Disco album ever; no songs need to be skipped, and the cover art is awesomely 80's.

This is a different version of Pop Musik than M's version; frankly sounds better

Loudness war applied to this remaster; it sounds absolutely awful...

Paparazzi (3) - Cold In A Warm Climate Madison-chan

I would pay good money for this to get a vinyl repress. Hopefully an official one.

Nice pressing, but what's the point of chiptune on vinyl? Well, I still bought it, so...

Steve Strange Madison-chan

July 5, 2019
Rest in peace, Steve...you pioneered one of my favourite music genres, New Romanticism, & created fantastic music videos...in the year 2525, you will still be remembered. 💖

The A side is something else. Tragic, yet beautiful. Amazed it became a hit single.

Scritti Politti Madison-chan

Speaking as someone who likes more adventurous new wave/new romantic/synth-pop music...SP is a guilty pleasure. Yeah, it's not amazing by any means but it's catchy & cute. It picks me up when I'm feeling blue. Sometimes you need the simpler stuff instead of New Order or OMD.

Lady Gaga Madison-chan

Don't mention Steve Strange in the same sentence as Lady Gaga, please. That man pioneered a genre, all Gaga pioneers is mediocre modern pop.

Rob Base & D.J. E-Z Rock* - It Takes Two Madison-chan

June 26, 2019
Fun fact: this song was used (illegally, of course) in the awful bootleg game Action 52.

Keiichi Suzuki, Hirokazu Tanaka, Hiroshi Kanazu - Mother 2 (ギーグの逆襲) as reviewed by Madison-chan

Music itself is 5 stars, but this release is only 2. Lots of surface noise. It'd be better to just listen to an SFC rip.

Duran Duran - Girls On Film 1979 Demo as reviewed by Madison-chan

June 25, 2019
An interesting curiosity, this demo is. This sounds like the transition point from 70's power pop to New Romanticism.

Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World Madison-chan

It's a boot. I'm a big TFF fan, and I've never came across it on any of their releases.

Paparazzi (3) - Don't Stay All Night as reviewed by Madison-chan

June 23, 2019
As an audiophile, this is the best sounding single I've ever heard. Great separation of instruments, stellar mixing. It feels like I'm in the studio, behind the glass, right next to the band. Do what the sleeve says and play it LOUD!
Madison-chan

Counterfeit (2) - The Good Samaritan Madison-chan

June 22, 2019
Dude, I doubt that you'll read this, but I dig this single. You should've made an album! :)

Kids In The Kitchen - Shine Madison-chan

June 22, 2019
Seconded. One of the things that made 80's music so great was all the little-known bands & singers pumping out great cuts.
Madison-chan

Ēbn-Ōzn - AEIOU Sometimes Y Madison-chan

June 22, 2019
Fun fact: This was the first ever single recorded entirely on a computer (a Fairlight CMI, to be exact) in the US.
