Discogs needs to add a sixth star for this release.
Been blowing my mind for 20 years now.

How this has less than 4 stars is beyond me. These are classic tracks. 5 easy.
Kerri Chandler - The June 23 EP

Love most everything from Kerri, but "That’s All I Needed" is my favorite track of his. It's dreamy, bumping and deep, the perfect 4am track.
USG* Presents African Blues - Coconut Jam

For me, this track has it all. The best of Trent and Nicholson wrapped in one. Sublime and mellow, it gets me grooving every time.
Underworld - Born Slippy
posted a review of Underworld - Born Slippy. over 2 years ago
Everyone loves Born Slippy .NUXX, but it's available lots of places. The real gem here is the Alex Reece remix of Banstyle. Great late 90's intelligent D&B remix. Never fails to take me back. For me, it's the sound of Tokyo on a warm Sunday afternoon... See full review
Infected Mushroom - IM25

They gave up on the whole psy scene years ago. There's little money in the psytrance (unless you're the organizer of Ozora or the owner of HillTop, of course) and they probably just wanted to branch out and get paid. I'll never forget when Classical... See full review
S.U.N. Project - Paranormal

Surprised at the low ratings for this album. I've never been a fan of SUN Project's guitar-heavy tracks, but this album contains some of their finest guitar-free material. Luna, Paranormal, That's a Trap, Computer Breath and Simplicity are all bangers... See full review
Atmos - The Only Process / So Nice You Name It Twice

Two fabulous tracks that meld perfectly with Tomasz's releases on Naja and Spiral Trax from the same period. These may sound somewhat dated to someone coming across them for the first time in 2022, but in '99 these tracks blew our minds. Funky,... See full review

Still a fairly good track. The breakdown at 4:29 is well crafted.
Ron Trent Presents Warm (15) - What Do The Stars Say To You

Just came across this.
Especially liking the collaborations with Conti and Malheiros.
Amazed these guys can still make music like this at their age.
Overall a great album. Just what you would expect from the legendary Mr. Trent.
Necton - B 12 Cocktail

I've owned this album for 22 years now and have only now come to appreciate it.
Mixed properly, it can be quite funky.
Played straight through, it all sounds quite similar, but mixed in a retro set with some
Gabriel Le Mar, SUN Project and Shiva... See full review

Legendary floor destroyer, the X-Dream mix in particular. Sounds as fresh as ever and harder hitting than anything that's come out since 1998.
Marcos Valle - Marcos Valle

I keep coming back to this album, liking it more every time.
Olivetti's and Jorge's fingerprints are all over this - it's unlike any other Valle album.
They were really on fire at the time.
Aside from their masterful eponymous album, also check out... See full review
Gary Bartz - Music Is My Sanctuary

Anything produced by the Mizells with Wade Marcus is a must own. Highly refined jazz funk and an indicator of impeccable taste. The brilliance of Bartz with a classic track by the great Skip Scarborough put this album near the peak of Mizell... See full review

Wish everyone in the world listened to and enjoyed music like that presented here, Joy and Pain being a prime example of musical genius and all-around good vibes. Mr. Beverly et al really bring it on this release.
Pleiadians - Family Of Light
posted a comment on Pleiadians - Family Of Light. over 3 years ago
For more than 20 years now, the track Family of Light has always made it on my Goa/Psytrance playlists. Pounding and dark, it fits in perfectly with X-Dream and Orichalcum tracks. Blows dancefloors up.
Kevin Toney - Special K
posted a comment on Kevin Toney - Special K. over 3 years ago
As with so many funk and jazz funk releases of the era, this album would be far more impressive with the vocals removed. Toney had an incredible lineup of musicians whose fine workmanship is muddied by a bunch of mediocre lyrics.
Roy Ayers - Drive
posted a comment on Roy Ayers - Drive. over 3 years ago
Hard to express how innovative and ingenious this album is. All of of Ayers's stuff is good, but this is somewhat of a departure him. He was trying to make a statement and succeeded brilliantly.

Mr. Odell's best work in my opinion. Been enjoying it regularly now for over 20 years. The Blazing Water and Shivering Sand are funky, thoughtful affairs, some of the best in the genre. They both would've fit well on his Snert release under his... See full review

Never heard of Filur and I know nothing about them or their music. What I do know is that the Larry Heard edit of Fallin' is incredible. Fingers never fails.
Lenny White - Streamline
posted a comment on Lenny White - Streamline. over 3 years ago
The B-side of this album is brilliant and features some of Blackmon's best work. Haven't been able to find anything quite like it on any of White's other releases, which tend to be more jazz-rock oriented. Definitely could've used some more of this... See full review

Brilliant release from the beloved Mantis Recordings.
Frankly, anything from Mantis was great.
Mixes well with stuff from Winding Road, later DIY releases, and some Freerange stuff.

You'd be mighty hard pressed to find a more soul touching track than Sorrow & A Cup Of Joe.
I always imagine what was going through Mr. Stinson's mind when he crafted this, and I'm glad he took the time to do so.
Tim Maia - Disco Club

Olivetti and Jorge's fingers are all over this one. Masterful Quincy Jones-esque attention to production. All the tracks are good, but it's really all about Sossego and its sped-up version Vitoria Regia.

Worth it for Ongaku alone. Absolutely brilliant track that perfectly captures a mid-80s Tokyo street scene. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

Joe Sample - Spellbound

Obviously our fine man Atmos had a major influence here. I would like it more were it not so blatant, but I guess Atmos had a influence on the entire genre at the time and it can't be helped.

Leaving Metro Area's remix of Central Living's track "Inside" (included on the CD version) off the album version was a fatal error. Absolutely essential track.

An interesting release from Hanna. Different than his normal deep house offerings with its breakbeat/Dnb sound, but not nearly as harsh and foreboding as Amen. Wasn't particularly fond of it at first, but now my 2nd or 3rd favorite Hanna release after... See full review

A very dark and hard release from Hanna. 180 degrees different from the masterful Contemplating Jazz. Mostly DnB, without any of Hanna's signature sound. You would have no way of telling this is a Hanna release. Mr. Harris must of been in a dark frame... See full review
