Ive got a flaky CD of Vermin In Ermine and although it does the job, the SQ is questionable. I notice that even more when I play this 10”. The sound here is so much fuller and clearer than that on the muddy CD. This is the best sounding version I have... See full review
Everything But The Girl - Love Not Money

So-so second album by EBTG. This one turns its back on the retro lounge jazz of the debut and explores a more classic indie sound. This was released at the height of The Smiths influence and that bands shadow is clearly felt. The songs aren’t as... See full review

Im surprised with the positive comments on SQ on this. To my ears it sounds quite loud and compressed. Ive certainly heard worse but it still sounds dense to me.
Anyway, I bought this on a whim as I remember quite liking Northern Town. Not sure I... See full review

Sounds good but its a 12” with one track on each side, so I would be disappointed if it didn’t sound good
Blur - Blur
posted a review of Blur - Blur. about 1 year ago
This is the Blur I love. Was never keen on the Knees Up Mother Brown stuff, but this grabbed me on first play. A heady concoction of post punk, Bowie and Blur’s own brand of wonky pop. As far as CDs go this is compressed but not destroyed. I can... See full review
The National - First Two Pages Of Frankenstein
posted a review of The National - First Two Pages Of Frankenstein. about 1 year ago
One of the worst sounding records in my collection. I’ve cleaned the thing 3 times and yet every track has an underlying distortion that destroys each track. Its sounds like a really compressed CD. Even the fairly minimal drums sound like they’re in... See full review

This does sound great.

Excuse my ignorance but what does it actually mean when it says Cut From Original Analogue Master ? Does that mean its cut from the original master tape from the 60s ? Or something else ? I sometimes wonder if statements like... See full review

Like all these New Order 12” reissues this sounds fantastic. I’ve seen some of the patients on the Hoffman forum saying “No No No. These sound too modern. Too loud. DR4. DR8. DR549 etc etc

They should spend more time listening to music and less time... See full review

This is a fantastic release. Sound-wise its top notch. Quiet and click/pop free. So often with big deluxe boxes like this I play the extras maybe a couple of times, then they go back in the box, forgotten. Not with this. The live album is wonderful.... See full review
John Cooper Clarke - Snap, Crackle [&] Bop

Brilliant album that I wish more people could hear. A strange melange of Joy Division and Durutti Column that reeks of late 70s/early 80s Factory. The Invisible Girls provide the backing and Dr Clarke nails it. Beasley Street is probably the most... See full review

Big Country - Steeltown

I don’t think this sounds as good as the original vinyl release but its nice to have the B sides on one disk as well as the other odds and ends. Shame they couldn’t have fitted the 12” mixes on somewhere. Great album though. I’m no fan of Big Country... See full review

One of the easier to find Bowie RCA CDs. I managed to get one for £20 but had to wait a while for that price.
Sounds on par with the original vinyl. Its certainly in a different league to the late 90s and 2017 versions, neither of which sound good to... See full review

Punk Not Punk but bloody remarkable nevertheless. Jet’s metronomic drumming, Hugh’s Beefheart-esque guitar, Dave - amazing Dave Greenfield, and JJ, one of the best bassists to come out of the punk scene.
Of course, they’re not punk. At least, not in... See full review

Fantastic album. Up there with Hounds Of Love imo.
I did buy one of the vinyl versions initially but it - and it’s replacement - were two of the worst sounding records I’ve ever heard, so I went for the CD in the end. Which sounds perfect.

A so-so album. I find the production a bit flat and the songs are very slow paced. Not bad but I get more pleasure out of Cracker Island to be honest.
Also, my copy sounds dreadful. Every track has noticeable distortion from the drums to the vocal. Piss poor See full review

Its quite a dense, muddy sounding mix so is never going to sound high end. I was lucky to get a nearly new copy for a tenner a few years back, and although I don’t play it very often, I really enjoy it when I do.

5 stars for the content. 14 tight Sparks weird pop songs.
