This is an absolute belter of a track, I know it's not all his orginal work but boy does Grant do a good job of updating it, the breakdowns are euphoric, the beats are pumping, it's a crowd pleasing classic from start to finish. 5/5.

I remember hearing Carl Cox play the original of this as his last tune of the night at Northumbria Uni late 96, the third drop caused pandamonium.

Agreed. Personally I can’t think of another producer whose quality is so consistent. So many of my favourite DnB tracks have been produced or remixed by him, across a broad range of styles too. A strong argument indeed.

If you were raving to D&B in 98 then you heard this everywhere, caned by the likes of Ed Rush, Grooverider and of course Andy C, this sounded incredible on a big system, the twisting, writhing, bassline just blew you away. It was so in your face. The... See full review

100% agree, still sounds fresh today and the one I always played off this album

Not Like You is an absolute beast of an edit, always in my bag and gets a great reaction on the floor. The extended bass guitar groove is infectious and the original is turned into a funk laden bomb. Essential.

I have the same tape! Where I heard this tune first and made me want to track it down. Still listen to the tape too, blistering set from CC in his prime... "DJ Carl Cox, king of Top of the Pops".
posted a comment on DJ Dextrous* - The Deep / This Situation. over 6 years ago
two very different tracks from one of the most underrated producers on the scene, the Deep is a twisting and turning amen rinser, never formulaic, always changing, The Situation is a more mellow roller on a hip hop sample tip but still rising above... See full review

As the Switch series goes, one side of this release is actually pretty good (it's the one on the video!), nice reece, rolling amens, never going to win the most intricately produced track of 1997 (far from it) but probably the best track this project... See full review

Alone is the stand-out track on this EP, pretty under the radar I think otherwise it would be a lot more sought after, lovely pads, heavy descending/ascending bassline, amen workouts, nice timestretched spoken vocal, all boxes ticked

great tune, seems to have been inspired by Omni Trio - Renegade Snares and is a fine homage to that sound and era. A set ender if I ever I heard one.

Wicked mash up of old school hip hop breaks with Dizzee's vocals over the top: "Blud, don't make me get old school". Demolishes the dancefloor every time i've played it and if you have a copy of Crosstown Traffic to mix in at the end then even better!

I was travelling around Australia in 96 and happened to spend about 3 months in Adelaide where HMC was resident at a club called Heaven. Coming from the UK where by that time clubbing was compartmentalised by genre, this place was a breath of fresh... See full review

My copy is a white label with X-plode written on it in biro and no other markings. Absolutely killer EP, bought one Saturday morning in 93 from Massive Records in Oxford (RIP).

The Dylan Rhymes mix on this 12 is slamming, driving bassline then teases you with that vocal until releasing at the perfect moment. Still rocks today.

I somehow doubt that the Sean McManus playing on folk records in the early 1970s is the same Sean Mcmanus making breakbeat hardcore and jungle in 1995

All about the Hoax mix on this one, a nice atmospheric roller with a few respectful bursts of amen just when you want them.

Completerly agree with Hutcho. Absolutely tearing tune on the A-Side. First heard it played out in Bristol, Krust or Bryan G I think, I asked what it was: "Dubplate Pressure" came the reply, which I assumed meant "It's on dubplate and doesn't have a... See full review

Don't think this is on the right Schema label. I have a similar reggae release with CAT no SCH 005 on Schema. Doesn't seem to fit this sequence of catalogue numbers or country or music type. Think it needs a new label.

A respectful update from DJ Skribble which is worth checking out if you're a fan of the seminal original version, Skribble's remix delivers a punchier lower end which works well through a big system as well some nice scratching between the verses.

Quite simply one of the most epic hardcore tracks ever made - raw, crunching synth bassline, crashing breakbeats, sirens and a female spoken word prayer - all the key elements present and correct.

This release will always have its place in drum and bass history. In 1997 jungle was mired in sample-by-numbers jump up and directionless darkside. This came out of leftfield. I first heard it dropped by Fabio on a Friday night in the unassuming... See full review
