Clearly you were not alive (or spoiled to bits) when this compilation was released. This release made these bands known to people who couldn't listen to them in 1988 before. The emotional connection is also very important.

In the middle eighties Miami and the greater Detroit area created a somewhat similar style in electro techno music. However these cultures were not connected at the time.
