The Top 3000 Records (so far...)
Another "Of All Time..." list? Really? Yup.
Is it any different from the dozens of other Best Album lists? Also Yup.
First, I've not only actually listened to every record on this list, but I own them as well. This is not a cold recalculation of data sets and critics' lists, it is a labor of love from a collector who cares greatly about recorded music.
Second, it's a heluva lot of fun. A 5 to 10 year quest to find the best of the best and hold them in a single collection.
Will it please everyone? Will it please anyone? That's not important to me. There are entries that have even me scratching my head in annoyance and disbelief.
There is a method, an algorithm, a spreadsheet, and a madness. But the devil is in the details, don't worry about it. (60% critical acclaim, 20% sales, 20% public opinion... give or take.)
But, why these 3000? Because somebody, somewhere, loves them. Hopefully you'll find a few that you love, and a few that you will love someday.
