Profile
I have been a music lover since the tender age of six where I distinctly remember being a huge Beatles fan and listening to them quite often. I grew up in a music loving household. My Father loved all types of music and my Mother worked as an accountant at The Fillmore.
I starting collecting music in my early preteen and teenage years. While I don't really remember my fist music purchase, most of my collection consisted of New Wave, Metal, Punk and Hip Hop. Though I enjoy many genres.
During those years I was friends with many music lovers and musicians. Which expanded even more once I moved to Richmond. I knew many people in the local music scene. Close friends were in well known bands at the time, such as Bad Guy Reaction, Ultracindy and Action Patrol. I was a roadie/tour support for The Jolly Mortals during their Southern Tour in '93. I also drove/roadie for Bad Guy Reaction on their Northern Tour and for Ultracindy for their Northern/midwest tour in the mid 90's.
I put out a couple of demo tapes for Sister Sound & The Venusians during a failed attempt at starting a label. I took the cover photo for Drunk's first album.
Around 2000 I went to a local workshop on how to set up your own radio station by a traveling group whose names escape me. I did meet local individuals who were doing their own pirate radio station. I joined up and did a somewhat regular weekly show. A friend of their's named, Christopher Maxwell, was leading the way to actually start a legal station under the LPFM designation. This turned into WRIR 97.3FM, which first aired on January 1st, 2005. At the time, and for a few years, we were the largest LPFM radio station in the country. I held various titles as needed during the first few years. From fundraiser to a member of the Board of Directors.
I started out with the radio station doing a somewhat freeform noise/experimental show. Since we had another show with similar focus at the time I decided to move into the electronica genre. Especially since I was the Music Director for that genre at the time. When I was asked to take over as Hip Hop music director I began to incorporate more Hip Hop into my show. Eventually settling on a Hip Hop focus of artists and music which you rarely heard on the airwaves. After almost 10 years of focusing on radio I retired my show.
