Very underrated nineties bizness. As with Herbert's also classic "Around the House" the riddims of acid house here are finally lapping at the shore of song. This dynamic makes it a twin to the deconstructed melodies of the post-punk era. Think Young... See full review

Virgin had seemingly both unlimited funds and total faith in author/musician David Toop. The result was a really wonderful kaleidoscopic series of compilations. They dropped at that point in time when music as precious and obscure as this was only... See full review

This is a little unfair. Perhaps it's more accurate to say it's not up your street? This compilation is as good as, if not better that Cherry Red's "Let's Go Down and Blow Our Minds" (the best of their clamshell surveys IMHO) - it differs from Nuggets... See full review

"Memphis" is missing too. A great collection - but you're right, "Sun is Shining" an especially odd omission. Perhaps there is a reason?

Juice Box is up there with Reinforced and Suburban Base as one of truly definitive Hardcore and Jungle labels. Up until 1995 the label could do no wrong. And it's almost all the output of one "guy"! Awe-inspiring.

An extremely strange release. A truly odd idea to package a bunch of BBC and early Avant-garde recordings together with a Joe Meek reissue. But it is (a) cheap (b) full of fantastic music and, if you squint, logical-enough.
