We're a married couple in our 30s. We travel a lot as adjunct professors in mid-Michigan. We come across a lot of neat stuff checking out thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales, craigslist posts, record stores, etc after class or killing time while the other is teaching.

We mostly collect for ourselves and we have a lot of interests - Rolling Stones, early punk and wave, German Neue Deutsche Welle, Krautrock, musique concrete (and other early/Modern electronic/synth/digital organ/etc), motivational/business/medical-quackery type stuff. Armed forces v-disc type stuff, radio broadcasts (Casey Kasum amd the American Top 40 type stuff), literature (especially authors reading their own works), world music (way too broad a category, but anything that looks interesting), and a bunch of niches in country, rock, indie, funk, soul, jazz, blues, techno. and whatever else.

We list a few albums once in a while that we either have already or think others might appreciate more. We're also in to trading. So if you see something in our collection, feel free to ask about it if you think you have something we'd be in to. There are many things we probably wouldn't let go of (old electronica, German stuff, advertising/motivational, Stones, and certain albums in other genres), but for most albums we're open to offers.

If you like Dan Andriano or Alkaline Trio, you’re going to like this. A bit (well a lot) lighter and sometimes whinier than early Alkaline Trio eps and Godammit and so so different than Slapstick. Tuesday was an important transitional group in the ... See full review

Is this the best midwest punk album of all time?

It is for me, and I’m not entirely sure I’d have a different answer if I removed “midwest” from the question.

Who would give this collection anything but 5*? It’s the definitive collection of 1st wave ska and does a phenomenal job of presenting the genre and its most influential artists. There are so many clasics on here. There are always bound to be some ... See full review

The “bird sounds” and primate calls that are one of defining sounds of exotica sound vaguely punk in this interpretation. It’s obviously guys just grunting and screeching, and it’s amazing.

“Halloween Horror” is a bizarre and rather awful extended exposition of a guy traveling to and entering the obviously haunted mansion he has inherited. It’s hilariously detailed, with the guy giving completely useless details in a sort of terribly done ... See full review

These “transformed” songs are fantastic. Ian’s voice has aged spectacularly, and the instrumentation on the tracks is theatrical in a dramatic, classic Bunnymenesque way that breathes new life into old favorites. They did an excellent job with this ... See full review

I was in Cincinati for a conference about a year ago, and found this at Another Part of the Forest for a quarter along with a ton of new wave and punk cassettes in the 4/$1 tape section. If you live in cinci and are into tapes, this place seems to put ... See full review

Fry and Laurie (Laurie especially - the Jeeves sounds rather too old on this recording) must have cribbed their delivery based on this album. A lot of the ancillary characters have similar deliveries. Pop this on and relax.

This definitely belongs in anybody’s great album covers collection. Great collage of twirling girls on a smooth orangy color palette.

European bootlegs like this often have strange labels to throw off authorities. Ruthless rhymes/dragonfly and slipped disc were notorious for it. My copy of this has a Lloyd Price label, a generic orange label, and a faux cracked Bell records label for ... See full review

It’s a lot of steel drums, bongos and maracas - the grooves are mellow and relaxing. But what really does it for me are the slurred, out-of-tune vocals. It’s like the band shared a bottle of vodka and a bunch of ambien and then recorded an album. I ... See full review
