I'm convinced that no two people have the exact same color combo on this.

Infamous grey-market imprint that used to make cheapie low-effort exploitation docs of cult musicians that somehow managed to deeply penetrate the music video retail environment of the mid-oughts. The docs used publicly available copyrighted footage... See full review

Track 1 on the original "Emeralds Live" CDr is repeated in full as Track 5 on Live II but with what sounds like new mastering (there's ping-ponging, stereo, spatialization etc that isn't really in evidence on the original mix) and Live II opens with a... See full review

It goes largely unrecognized that "Spec Bebop" is built around a loop of the Stones' "Yesterday's Papers"

Can't speak to the original but the 2010 digital remaster does sound markedly muddy. I just figured it was 'how it sounded' since these were supposedly unfinished demos not intended for wide release

I always thought they cut out the intro to "Crosseyed and Painless" on the 2004 reissue for timing reasons, but the first disc on the reissue runs 78 minutes, the second around 77, and the intro section in question is just about a minute long, so... See full review

The closet mix is the source for the mono folddown in this box. Note the presence of the alternate take of "Some Kinda Love" with no Sterling rhythm guitar at all and a different vocal take than the Valentin.

The 3rd LP is a mono folddown of the Closet Mix, not the Valentin. As it is mono, stereo positioning cannot be considered a distinguishing characteristic. The closet mix, as does the mono mix in this box set, features an alternate take of "Some... See full review

Bootleg pressing, nice looking sleeve, sounds pretty good until last half of side 2 when it gets really noisy (noise is in the grooves/cut, not surface noise/dirt)

I think this pressing sounds really good. Flat and generally well-centered, no sibilance or distortion or noise that I noticed. As I understand it, this album was mixed ADD in 1994 and all releases are going to come from that digital mixdown, as... See full review

I think this album was only ever digitally mixed to DAT and never mixed in AAA. All sources old/new, CD/LP whatever come from that DAT source. The original vinyl release was definitely not an all-analog mix and mastering chain.

I am fairly certain this album was mixed straight to DAT at 16/48 or lower in 1994, and no higher res or pure analog mix exists. I have a 24/96 vinyl rip of the OG pressing that shows no particular signal above the 20-21khz range and IMO sounds... See full review
