Once you get past the first 2 minutes of wild west sketch or whatever the "Journey Man Thump" settles into a robotic, otherworldly and deep Chi-style anthem. Underrated, RIP Romanthony

God's House Records (basement boys) bangs the box. That bassline... Ann Nesby goes crazy on the vocals. Peak hour gospel house

there are other more progressive sounding/tribal mixes on the yellow record and more hard house type stuff on the red, but the Brian Bristol/George Morel mix is tops. It strikes a compromise with all these different elements and goes down smooth. The... See full review
Shaboom - Totally

Totally is an attempt at a disco/garage anthem that serious heads might feel is too fruity but actually gets the floor moving. It's not quite at the level of all-time classic but it has moments. The David Morales remix is the superior version.
Pimp C - Knocking Doorz Down

As the Mike Diesel airhorn promises, this song is legit. It combines a spooky keyboard riff and ridiculous jingle bells... once you hear it, you can't unhear it. It's listed as gangsta but southern hip-hop is also an accurate description. "P.O.P. will... See full review

This is an interesting compilation. The true highlights are the We Deliver mix of Rosie Gaines' "Closer than Close." and the LLV edit of Stephanie Mills "Free." The former is dramatic vocal house with layers and a sweet hook. The latter is vaguely... See full review

Margaret Grace rocks the vocals on this soulful house instant classic. Harry Choo Choo's usage of the iconic sample from Lil' Louis' French Kiss drives this Quentin Harris production relentlessly forward. the Yass remix is also a banger. Real nice and groovy. See full review
G-Swing (2) - G Swing EP
posted a review of G-Swing (2) - G Swing EP. over 9 years ago
This EP takes samples of big band era (or earlier) and turns them into high tempo (128 BPM ish) house. All 4 tracks are playable. Shades of Cajmere's "Horny" and overall just a fun release.
Aaron-Carl - Make Me Happy

The Soul City always had top notch releases, and this Aaron-Carl track is no joke. Sublime synths, masterful samples (of his own vocal) and some sassy "Let me let you have it" spoken word towards the end. Really like how the intro goes right into a... See full review

Martha Wash - Give It To You

The Dead Zone Mix (121 BPM) is early David "momo" Morales at his finest. The Martha Wash vocal is looped and sampled only for a few seconds at a start, to introduce the programming over a kick drum. There's filtered tease guitar and various bleeps and... See full review

You are right the original mix is nothing special and actually can backfire and clear a dancefloor. To answer the question as to "why" people remember this track, my theory is it goes back to Ministry of Sound - Session 5: MAW. It was 1995, they were... See full review

The Quentin Harris mix is just nasty. The bassline is simple but carries the vocal and airy synths, the real story is the drum programming. Tweaky little high ends of various type layer and it builds... one of the better late shelter releases.

A2 It's Alright, I Feel It Alternative 12" mix is the highlight of this release. Jocelyn Brown's vocals are huge and the beat is a nefarious hip-hop inspired break. It's uplifting NY vocal house and a really fine M.A.W. remix. B1 Runaway an Armand Van... See full review
