Profile

I have been an avid collector of music ever since I was a kid and have a huge passion for all styles of electronic music, especially those in the breakbeat hardcore, jungle and drum & bass genres. I have been collecting vinyl, CD's and cassettes since the early nineties and have in the past 5 years dabbled with producing music in the breakbeat hardcore/darkcore style with some success.

I have had tracks featured on labels including Paranoid Recordings, Strictly Nu-Skool, Switchbade Digital and 7th Storey Projects, and I am currently awaiting my latest release on Jedi Recordings.

I am also a regular contributor to the Strictly NuSkool Blog, where I review jungle/drum & bass and the occasional breakbeat hardcore releases.

I remember buying Simon Reynolds book in the late nineties after being an avid collector of all things breakbeat hardcore, albeit retrospectively (I missed the heyday of underground rave, but had sought out any hardcore trax that I could find).

It's the same with Mampi Swift "Jaws "The Demolition" too. Is a bit sloppy of them to release this compilation in this condition.
Various - The Fury!

"The Fury" is basically an overview of Death Becomes Me/Rogue Trooper label releases with a focus on 1994-1995 jungle/drum & bass. Featuring a few lesser known, but very competent artists (Austin M, DJ Creation and Heavyweight) as well as heavy... See full review

Such an essential release with both the "2 Twisted" and "The Clown" mixes holding up to the already legendary original.

I have very fond memories of picking up this compilation on cassette from a petrol station bargain bin in the Summer of 1996 on my way down to London on a family holiday, and rinsing it out on my Walkman. I had been buying hardcore/jungle comps and... See full review

I spent over a decade thinking that "Subway" was "Killamanjaro" and vice versa. Eventually discovered which was which when I joined music forums online. Always wondered why compilations had the track names switched? It was usually "Subway" which... See full review

"Trouble In China" samples the bleeping melody from Cosmic Baby "Space Track (Remix)" which featured on the first "Trance Europe Express" compilation. And did so to great effect too. A seriously soulful piece of early Drum & Bass here which goes for a... See full review
Subnation - Scottie III Remix
posted a review of Subnation - Scottie III Remix. about 1 year ago
Think there must have been a bit of confusion over the "Scottie" title on this remix. Though I love the Star Trek elements on this version too. Is a killer remix, as is the darker jungle version on the flip side.
Dark Soldier - Ghosts / Wonky Dog

Dread Recordings was one of the labels that brought me back to drum & bass after being left cold by cheesy jump-up and minimal techstep in the late nineties. The no nonsense focus on organic breaks and nasty bass really brought back what made jungle... See full review

An absolute beast of a 12" from Austin M here with "Something Out There" being a personal favourite since I first heard it after one of my many bargain bin hauls back in the day.

This is such a top notch EP coming from the collective talents of L Double, ST Files and Mo2Vation. As mentioned by others here, "Come Cross!!" is a great leftfield slice of 1994 jungle with smatterings of ragga chatting blended in with heavy drum... See full review
