Picked up a used copy and it is quiet as anything and one of the best sounding records I've heard, so they must have worked out some of the quality issues. I wish I had the means to play the MQA content, but as is it sounds fantastic and is well worth ... See full review

I'm not a fan of Spiritualized in general, but this album is stellar. Oddly enough I picked it up at a retailer at the mall when it came out and not through mail order.

Mine is plain black vinyl as well, but includes the dinosaur and all the other details contained here, although the corners look square to me, not rounded.

Listening to this now, sounds and looks fantastic. Never would have guessed it's a bootleg. How do these get into legitimate record stores?

This is indeed an incredible record, with depth and beauty that rivals any of the records of the 80s held up as standard bearers. The fact that The Sound has flown under the radar for so long is unfathomable. "Party of the Mind" alone should be ... See full review

Other than the lack of a gatefold cover, I can't really find much fault with this. I would never have guessed this was a bootleg. The sleeve and labels look great and the sound is quiet and dynamic.

FWIW, Richard Jobson has a different explanation for why the cover was changed:

I agree, it's punk in its aggressiveness, but also has elements of prog in some ways, and yet with a sense of humor (which is very not-prog). They are definitely one of the most unique bands that has ever been.

Yes, that is possible. Crowd-sourcing should weed most of that out (like with wikipedia), but probably even a die-hard Beatles fan won't have every single pressing, and as many as there are there are bound to be oddities like the one here. I see a lot ... See full review

No, never heard anything back on this, which is surprising considering all the Beatles knowledge on Discogs. I'm going with my original theory until a better one comes along :).

Found a copy of this at my local shop for $17 the other day and just about flipped. Of course I thought it was the real thing until discogs told me otherwise. Still a fine pressing, doesn't feel or sound like a bootleg at all. I's definitely quieter ... See full review
