Up beat accordion driven cumbia with vocals, somewhat of a novelty.

Very nice package with the silver foil print. The songs add some cheesy vocals and/or strings from time to time, but when they stick to the instrumental bossa sound, this straddles between the cheesiness your grandparents might have jammed to and the ... See full review

Quite a curiosity, as AUTOMATIXROMANTIX notes, this is one side that is a "mind adventure" on the A side followed by a compendium of sound effects on side B. Recommended for samplers and scratch djs, as well as oddity collectors.

Very fun release from Ms. Wanderley (yes, I'm writing this from the present tense). Drenched in the 60's sun, and produced ever-so nicely. Highly recommended for when the nights get hot, and the exotica is the only thing that will set the party on its ... See full review

Was combing through the collection to see what I could lighten up on, but as others have stated this dub is heavy! Essential; have to agree the solid yellow is the pressing to nab.

Dame Tu Amor is a brass driven cumbia/salsa with a vocal that comes in late after a minute or more.

Dulce Espera appears on an Ecos LP, however, the B side "El Rapto de la Gitana" does not and is a "B" side only release.

Excellent exotica! Vibrant precussion (Yakui rattles, deer hoofs, turtle shell rattles, rasping sticks, etc.) typically high in the mix is underscored by Waldo's dramatic violin which juxtaposes an element of class here in the jungle. This is not some of ... See full review

Heavy funk instrumentals (with sparse vocals on their modest-hit single "Love the Life You Live"), lusher than the first studio album, this set is all killer no filler. Even the tracks that slow down the funk, "Stop, Look & Listen"/"Blowin' With The ... See full review

Really funky, dabbling in the avant (but no where near as out-there as say Mwandishi, Sextant, and/or Crossings -- but he's well on his way). Highlights include Fat Mama, Wiggle Waggle and Fat Albert Rotunda -- in that order.

This is all around, as others here have stated, a really strong album in the Laurel Canyon genre. Side I is largely better than side II (partly due to the inclusion of the saccharine dullness of Traction in the Rain, and the somewhat meandering Song with ... See full review

As far as avant-jazz goes, I'm not a huge fan, but this album, THIS album is transcendent. Throw on some head phones and while some free/avant discs will become grating, this album just fires on a cacophony of bliss. Highly recommended, especially those ... See full review

Recorded at the tale end of 1969, aside from the cheesy psychedelic titles, the overall sound of this leans more towards progressive hard rock and less towards their watershed Journey to the Center of the Mind. It definitely has some nice moments but as ... See full review

Hip. I can't think of a better single word description for this set. From the outset Moneypenny's drums are high in the mix against Cal's dreamy vibes. All Bacarach covers means strong melodies throughout. Other highlights are Message to Michael, which ... See full review

Summer Love and A Hot Day Today are kind of soft, but the rest of this LP is really consistent. I'm not huge into jazz horns (or lyrics w/ Jazz funk), but they are used sparingly and when used are tastefully arranged. If you are willing to maintain jazz ... See full review

I like this disc better than some of the George Abdo releases on the Monitor imprint from the same time period. This disc is all instrumental, and has some haunting clarinet solos embellished with tasteful oud solos.

Living in the world today features a spaced out solo over a driving four-on-the-floor style rhythm which ultimately gives way to an organ solo. Minus Points. The majority of the remainder is aimless meandering piano/synth/moog-tinged drivel.

Solid B-Boy breakdown on Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In. Rest of the record is a bit of a novelty, but if you're into the moog sound, this is a must-have novelty.
