Some of this reminds me of old Slabco tapes from Patch, Land of the Loops, etc. Cool vibes.

high hats in the beat of Fly Shit are so sick, dope tune, great release

I have the UK one and it sounds pretty good. Have not heard the Japanese pressing for comparison. No download card included in case anyone is curious. I read somewhere it should have one, this was sealed from Amoeba and did not.

Anyone know who did the cover art? Awesome illustration. Beautiful music.

This release is insane. Incredibly creative. Doesn't sound like anything else really. This is the music that plays in my head when I space out looking at rust on a sign or yarn on the ground. A cut and paste mix tape that will leave you salivating for ... See full review

Yes it does. I hope they can put this out again. Was stuck in my car's CD player for a while in 1998 and I didn't mind.

Well put. Incredible record. Stays away from trendy cliches yet sounds totally contemporary and fresh. Really solid songs and vibe.

I agree. who did the art on this? it's an interesting design.

It sounds alright. Not amazing but not overly quiet or suffering from poor dynamics.

I'd love to know too. The 2015 copy I got sounded like garbage.

The timeless and catchy Lorenz Rhode tune "On Top" sounds a bit like an old I:Cube track, great compilation top to bottom. Beautiful artwork by Jun Kamoda too.

I agree, solid album. In a weird way this could almost be like a Darla Records Bliss Out edition... has more of a deep house vibe than JVKM and that stuff they put out, but it has that late 90s ambient swirl in spades. But it also taps into the ... See full review

awesome comp, that (excellent) Dumont track reminds me a bit of the 90s synth group Micromars

Definitely! It is like yellow balloon and millenium style pop with a really laidback off-the-cuff feel. Awesome production throughout.

Great review, well put. I would argue that the photograph on the cover is evocative of exactly this: "...darker. Like a bad dream. Almost frustrating at points. Some songs feel trapped in a moment of danger. "

Totally agree. I was thinking of the first Tricky album combined with Elysian Fields 'queen of the meadow' LP, with a bit of Bowery Electric in there too—but with Tropic of Cancer and HTRK as more recent references. Cool stuff.

incredible songs of grooved-out confusion...layered haze synth chugs that drip with dirty kraut techno fuzz...simultaneously making you feel claustrophobic/trapped and on the run in a space film at the same time. flawless record.

Side B... just incredible. Well-mixed and catchy-as-hell island vibes. For fans of Lord Kitchener and soul funk oriented reggae. I wish they issued a dub version with just bass and drums!

totally agree... it actually is what I would expect a 1993 era deep house record from DJ Premier or Da Beatminerz to sound like. Dusty dirty hypnotic dubbed out rhythms. Brilliant stuff. As is pretty much everything these guys touch.

Incredible collections from start to finish. Sound quality is good and sleeves are beautiful.
posted a review of Cale Parks - Lagoon Fool. over 3 years ago
Lagoon Fool is one of my favorite songs of 2015. Could be the intro to a road movie, works as a get-the-ball-rolling 11pm jam, or even as a background to a documentary on South American Cichlids. So sick. His 12" on Rothmans is amazing too.

Anyone else have horrible static on their copy of this pressing? I got mine from Amoeba LA and it is unlistenable. Recently replaced stylus, definitely the record.

obviously came after this, but the music side of this reminds me of the indie pop guy out of Australia in the 90s Stinky Fire Engine

It actually reminds me of early 90s Miami Bass record covers - or maybe mid-90s NY trip-hop and jungle covers too... actually kinda similar to No Limit covers too. Covers.

sucks when so many people buy a $10 record just to turn around and sell it for $60 the next day. I mean yes everyone and anyone can do it but seriously is much more fun to buy music to listen to it and/or play it out. Great 12"!!!
