I agree. There are some really good tracks and collaborations but a couple are a bit iffy - but it’s a good listen and the fresh blood from the collaborators really helps

Lovely. A little no wait to get my hands on one. The guitar playing is sublime.

Very easy to miss with its black cover and silver star. The nerdy accountants running HMV/Fopp now it has gone bust again must like it too as copious supplies are in stock. Shame Karen has been airbrushed out of everything - she’s hardly a munter. It ... See full review

What a difference a haircut and some stubble makes. This is a very good album indeed. Whilst Josh Stone track is stand out so is Ruins but all are so sung/delivered with passion. Can’t understand why he was dropped by his original record label

Lots of interesting stuff in the liner notes about how the songs were put together especially the analogue synthesisers with Harold Faltermeyer.

Bought it for RSD - finally listened to it over NY. Lots of gems but the 2 by Johnny Adams are the stand outs.

Very good pressing. The bass line to Lowrell was lifted by Massive Attack for Lately on Blue Lines in 1991. And Yazz covered the A - side in 1988.
posted a comment on Jackson Browne - Lives In The Balance. over 2 years ago
Lives in the balance was the acerbic anti-Reagan anti-war protest song. The lyrics have the real ouch factor. They show up Bruce Springstein's effort in similar vein on Born in the USA for what it was - amateurish. And not only has LItB not dated - it ... See full review

Last track is cover by proto hippie Abba type Swedish folk quartet (sung in Swedish too) of "A horse with no name" by America. Not an obvious dance track choice - but it is a stand out item here

I'm not convinced this works. The orchestra is drowned out by heavy percussion, synths and other electronic noises. What remains are cover versions of late 80 s and early 90s classics which are not improvements and in some cases the vocalists haven't ... See full review

This is a very good album - I've listened to it loads. Don't let the descriptors of 'folk' or 'folk rock' put you off - it is very dreamy ethereal ambient music with a kick and a few twists.

Better than last year's one. Luke Howard is very good as is D-Pulse. Shame they no longer stick to original formula of some old tracks and a few in Spanish - all vocals here are in English.
