FYI - BAOI RULES CHANGE ALL THE TIME. A DB NEEDS TO EVOLVE I GET IT BUT I WILL NOT RETROACTIVELY CHANGE MY ENTRIES TO NEW RULES. IT'S A PUBLIC DB YOU CHANGE IT, IT'S HOW IT WAS DESIGNED. ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY AND LEAVE THE NEW GUIDELINES REFERENCING THE CHANGE. ANY REQUEST WITHOUT A GUIDELINE OR THREAD REFERENCED IS A PREFERENCE REQUEST!

When submitting releases I take care in near or complete submissions, ensuring the guidelines are followed. It makes for a better experience browsing this site. I'm a dead wax junkie and an internet stuff finder pro 3000. My goal is always to give you all the factual information about the record I can identify. If you see I made a mistake feel free to just correct it yourself. It can be reverted if you are wrong about me being wrong. ;) ALL OF YOU NEED TO LEAVE BETTER SUBMISSION NOTES can't stress this enough. 90% of the bickering and drama on this site is due to shit submission notes. Just say what you did. Cite guidelines if you need to. Leave sources when required yes some submission edits require them. Avoid linking to a thread without a short summary. Not everyone has time to read 5 -10 pages of a decided item you are taking action on. Nine time out of ten it's too late to have any say in the decision and it won't matter in years from now when guidelines flip flop back. Not summarizing is rude. I trust you all thought of 99% of the use cases and are making the world a better place./s In fact i'm done with the forums with exception to db references. I don't have time. If it's not in the guidelines, I don't care it wasn't important enough to be taken seriously. Publishers and rights have fields use them! Take the highest rez best looking straightest images/scans you can. Learn how to enter matrix info! It helps with identifying exact releases and ensuring represses and bootlegs of your prized records are not sold from the legit pages tainting values with inaccurate history or you fall victim to purchasing one by mistake.

If I have items to sell that is all I have for sale. Please DO NOT send me offers for my inventory items NOT listed for sale. Do send me your items for sale in my want list, I do look at those. Do send me your auctions, lists whatever links your want. :) I buy more than I sell at this point in my life. Years from now I might sell what you want. Right now my for sale items are just what i have no use for or have additional copies of. I only use Mint if an item is sealed. I rarely use NM. I typically under grade items. So this means you are likely to be impressed if it is VG graded record. Rant over,

Sold as a set
RSG §1.1.4 List any items that were initially sold as a package (by the record company) as one release, no matter what the packaging. Packaged items that are also released individually are treated as separate releases. Items where we are uncertain if they were sold as a package can be entered as separate items. Items that are obtained after the sale via a coupon or other method should be entered as individual releases.

Differences should be noted
RSG §1.4.2 If the difference is subtle, you must explain the difference in the release notes, or with images, or by any other effective means, in order that future users can tell their versions apart by referring to the entry in Discogs. For example; reissues that cannot be told apart from the original issue cannot be entered as a unique release - unique releases must have a means of identifying them as such!

BAOI description field should follow proper English rules for capitalization "All other text"
RSG §1.2.1 The standard Discogs rule for artist and label names, joiners, release and track titles, format free text field, index track titles, credits, and headings, is the First Letter Of Each Word Is Capitalized. Track Positions can usually be represented exactly as on the release. All other text (release notes, comments etc) should follow standard English capitalization rules.

Track titles not clear
RSG §3.3.1 Releases that lack side designations should have two titles listed with a dash separating each one (This is also helpful because it will help prevent the release from being re-added as a dupe or to the wrong MR)

A Side only in titles
RSG §3.4.6 Singles without sleeves should only list the A side as the title, unless it is a double A sided release. However, if they have two separate artists, one each side, please list both track titles in the main title.

No Label
RSG §4.4.1 Releases which have no discernible label, such as self-released albums, limited edition tour merchandise, white labels, bootlegs, etc. should be listed under the "Not On Label" meta-label. This is done by typing "Not On Label" into the Label field. Before using Not On Label, please check for any catalog number or other markings that could associate a release with a particular label, or labels. Often, white label records can be tied back to a label by the catalog numbers found in the run-out grooves, and some CDs with limited information present might include a label logo, if no catalog number is clearly present.

Unofficial Release Label And Company Names
RSG §4.4.1 Care should be taken with counterfeit recordings, which are packaged to resemble the original as closely as possible. Often, the packaging will include the original label and company names. Enter these items using a separate label; For example, if the original label is "LabelName", and the suspected counterfeit contains this label name, it should be entered as "LabelName (2)" (or the next available number) - thereby creating a different label. The profile of this label should be filled out to explain its circumstances.

Free Text Field
RSG §6.1.5 The Free Text field should be used to describe;
Any non-standard color of the audio carrier
Any notable packaging (for example gatefold sleeves, Digipak etc ( see 6.1.6)
Any significant differentiating factor between releases (for example, sleeve or label color etc)
Text that isn't part of the title but distinguishes the specific release from others (for example 'Disc 1', '30th Anniversary Edition' etc). The free text field should not be used to describe things that are already in the Format or Description fields
Bitrates for lossy file formats, for example "320 kbps"
Any non-standard weight on vinyl releases, provided it appears on the release, or is clearly identifiable as part of a series of heavy presses
Cassette information such as "C60", "Dolby B", etc
Film encoding information such as Dolby Digital, DTS etc.

RSG §6.1.6 Unless any release that has the same title and format on the artist or label pages is also released using different packaging (for example a slimline jewel case and a Digipak), package description should not be added to the free text field, but remain in the Release Notes.

RSG §6.1.7 As the free text field will be shortened to only the first three characters on the artist and label page lists, it is beneficial that the most important distinguishing feature be noted first. For example, if the vinyl is available in "mottled clear red, blue, and brown", it should be listed in the free text box with the color first: 'Brown Mottled, Clear' etc, so the three character abbreviations "Red, Bro, Blu" appear on the artist and label lists.

Stereo & Mono
RSG §6.13 The Stereo tag may be used for any stereo release, but is required if there also is a mono version in the database. Where a release contains both stereo and mono audio, both Stereo and Mono tags should be applied.

Singles
RSG §6.10 Album, Mini-Album, EP, Mixtape, Maxi-Single and Single tags should only be used where it is factual. If there is no reference that the use of the tag is correct, the tag should not be used. References can include:
a) mentioned on the release
b) declared by the label or artist
c) charted in a relevant chart that corresponds to the tag
d) generally regarded as such by independent sources (fan sites, music industry publications etc).
Do not guess at or attempt to apply personal standards to these tags. If you are going to do multiple edits regarding these tags, remember to follow RSG §14.1.2.

Reissue Needs To Be Printed On The Release
RSG §6.17.1 The 'Reissue' tag should not be used where the work does not appear in it's original form, for example singles that combine two hits together.

'Reissue' and 'Repress' can be used together.

[Uncredited]
RSG §10.7.1 Credits that do not appear on the release can be added only under certain circumstances. The (credible) credit source must be stated in the submission notes, and the credit must be labeled with [Uncredited] in brackets after the credit role. If other text is used in the credit brackets, the 'Uncredited' must have a comma separating it from the other text.

A/B vs A1/B1
RSG §12.2.5 If the release is a one-sided record or cassette (or is a set containing such an item) you must add "Single Sided" to the format. For double sided releases with a single track per side, trailing numbers are not required (you can use A instead of A1), but they are acceptable.

Images
RSG §13.1.5 Covers should be added only if they are artwork (no scans of plain sleeves please!). For releases enclosed in or including generic artwork, this artwork can be added, but the primary image must be the center label information, or other such image that shows the most non-generic, release specific information. If available, CD / DVD etc booklets and other goodies are acceptable as well. Picture discs, colored vinyl, and other interesting media should be photographed as clearly as possible, preferably without flash.

ANYONE CAN EDIT!
RSG §14.1.1 The information in the Discogs database can be updated at any time, by any logged in user.

RSG §14.1.2 was
If you are going to do multiple edits regarding these tags, remember to follow guideline"
is now
"If you want to do the same type of edit over many releases, post a message in the Database forum stating your intentions. This will ensure your updates are acceptable before you do them, and may help you get votes faster. Link to the discussion on each of your edits, so other voters can read what is discussed."

NEVER REMOVE INFO
RSG §14.1.4 Valid information should never be removed from a submission. If there is valid information in the wrong field, it should be moved to the correct field, not deleted.

LEAVE GOOD SUBMISSION NOTES!
RSG §14.1.4 Even if it seems obvious, always try to explain your update fully using the submission notes. This will always be appreciated by other users, and is vital when we need to look back over the submission data's history.

Conduct
RSG §14.3.2 All comments should be on the topic of improving the release information. Comments are not for chatting / arguing with other users, adding reviews of the release, etc.

Larger image uploads enabled!

Reason we are not serving larger images up other than via api: TLDR COST
"Storing the images and serving the images present two different costs.
Storage is pretty cheap, so allowing large uploads isn't a huge deal. When it comes to serving them though, the smaller we can make the file sizes the better (thus the compression) as those costs can add up pretty quickly.
Since we're able to store the original high quality images we can utilize them later as internet access in general becomes faster and the cost to serve larger files to users comes down."
