"Artistry in Rhythm" is the jewel of this set for me. Sam Woodyard plays the funkiest pattern on his snare & hi-hat, using brushes, I'm pretty sure. I've never heard a big-band recording quite like it.

I've had multiple copies of this record, and all the B-sides have exhibited metallic-sounding distortion in the horn and vocal frequencies, in the same places. Anybody out there *not* have this problem?

At least on the UK pressings, "Mystery Dance" ends cold on "satisfied," as opposed to the LP version, which fades out.

All the U-Black cuts here are edits from his Westbound Thing a Swing LP. The LP versions are these approximate lengths:
King of All Time: 4:08
Crocodile Style: 3:06
Love You Girl: 3:05
The aforementioned U-Black album also contains "Ride into Zion,"... See full review

One of the most exultant, life-affirming, adrenaline-pumping recordings of any era. Buy at least 5 copies.

"Come on Deh" is actually I-Roy, recorded earlier than the rest of the material on here.

The vocal is an ensemble affair, a la P-Funk. Not sure Harvey actually sang on this one. It's still a pretty uplifting dance piece.

This isn't Milwaukee's Esquires -- I hear at least two women singers, and Milwaukee's group was all dudes. Plus the two ensembles sound nothing alike.

The A-side is by far the funniest Stax recording I've ever heard. The arrangement seems deliberately slow, sluggish, and kinda nondescript, which you'll soon realize was a stroke of genius. At the outset, Barbara Brown sounds a little tipsy. Enter... See full review

The earliest house record I've heard. Special Remix is sparser, more conga-centric than the original, and a bit stiff. The Mega Dub Remix sounds like it was made in 1985. Electro-hi-hat, electro-snare, and clavinet dominate. Pretty sterile to... See full review

The EQ on this release is heavy in the vocal frequencies, and the bass is much quieter than on the original release and the recent 45 RPM vinyl reissue. It actually sounds pretty cool, like you're hearing it on a transistor radio.

Prior to this album, Kong previously had released records by only Bob, not the Wailers.

No, it's not stupid; it's actually thoughtful and accurate. Nor is it pointless: the album has a Radio Side and a Street Side. 'Radio' implies no cursin'; 'Street' connotes cursin'. Addressing the review to the fact that the Radio Side has cursin'... See full review

Shotgun snare-drum sound reminiscent of Paul Cook & Steven Adler. "Time Will Supply the Answer" = "Turn! Turn! Turn!"/"Blowin' in the Wind" medley, a six-and-a-half-minute full-choir crescendo piece in slow 4/4 that ends in screaming apocalyptic terror.
