ISLAND PALM LABEL - PINK RIM
After years of experience and collecting I've personally checked hundred of releases here on Discogs before writing this guide that I hope could help this community. For any doubt, question or correction please feel free to send me messages, I'm still studying :)
--------------------------------------------------------------
The PINK RIM label was used starting from November-December 1970 until 1975 when was repaced by the SUNSET label, also called BLUE RIM.
However we need to distiguish between three graphic variations that help us to recognize original versions from reissues, I’ve called PINK RIM I, II or III. There are also some “hybrid” labels with small variations, found only in few releases: you will find the link to the release in the Discography down.
Chronology:
PINK RIM I: To the right of the central hole you can find the indication of the side, called Side 1 and Side 2, below, respectively, the catalog number, the copyright symbol with date, the STEREO inscription. This version appears starting from ILPS 9131 Alan Bown - Listen although a couple of titles with subsequent numbering were still released with the PINK label.
PINK RIM II: Starting from ILPS 9181 The Sutherland Bros. Band* - The Sutherland Brothers Band released in 1972 we find the inscription “Island Records Ltd.” added to the copyright symbol. Few titles were still released with the PINK RIM I, other few are “hybrid” labels (for example the Free At Last album).
PINK RIM III: Already in June 1972 ILPS 9197 Richard Thompson - Henry The Human Fly the last variation: the Side 1 / Side 2 indications disappear and we simply find A or B added to the right of the catalog number. Also the STEREO was removed.
So we can affirm with certainty that all the PINK RIM II were released in 1972.

Note:
As said above, the chronological numbering not always matches with the real chronology of release: an evident case is the Trilogy album by EL&P (ILPS 9186 released in July 1972 with the PINK RIM III label) while for example the Jim Capaldi debut ILPS 9187 was previously released in February with the PINK RIM II label.

Another detail to keep in mind is the address changing of the company, ocasionally printed on the cover: 8 Basing Street, London, W10 before 1973, after is 22 St Peters Square London, W6 9NW.
--------------------------------------------------------------
