Doh! Note to self, must remember to check other releases... My bad.

"Sour Times" is a brilliant track, but it is astounding to hear Lalo Schifrin's "Danube Incident" and realise that Portishead lifted the entire backing track wholesale. And it's not even credited!

I think it's the other way round - the Sollo release came out in 2015, this came out in 2012.

I see this recording has now been given its own release so my comments no longer apply.

My comment is for the Aleph CD. Note that comments are also collated under the master release. This confusion is another reason the Aleph CD should be a separate release.

Well, yes MP3s are a compressed format so will have inherently less detail than a lossless format such as FLAC or WAV. But you are incorrect in saying that they lose quality when transferred to iPod/CD - these are both digital formats and so should be ... See full review

Note that this is a completely new recording of the score done in 2002, as the original recording could not be licensed for CD issue. This release should probably have it's own listing...

Track 2 is a re-edit of One Way Featuring Al Hudson's "I Am Under Your Spell".
Track 3 is a re-edit of Tata Vega's "Get It Up For Love".
Track 7 is a re-edit of Womack and Womack's "Baby I'm Scared of You".

An incredible producer, almost everything he's touched is pure gold. Criminally unavailable on CD - "Synthèse" is long out of print, and most of his EPs are only available on vinyl at high prices. The "Confiote De Bits" compilation is great, but how ... See full review

I have both "Big Love" and "Peg" and have played both many, many times. I'll be damned if there is any connection between the 2...

Nah, Pépé Bradock's Saucy Precog Remix is the one for me. A lovely long, lush build up.

Track 2-01 is incorrectly labelled - it is not the Derrick Carter remix, but Bushes (The Second Remix) (Version 2.1).

DJ Spinna's mixing on the third CD is technically excellent, but maybe too frantic for this sort of music. Tracks of this calibre need room to breathe!

Probably my favourite compilation of all time. Every track is a soulful gem, a classic without being over familiar. Turn down the lights, and snuggle up to your loved one on that bearskin rug in front of the fire.

The Neptunes work their magic on this one, with their trademark stripped down sound bumping the vocals along nicely. A laid-back bopping beauty.

"Honeymoon" has a funny breakdown which sounds like RF interference from a mobile phone. Just when you think the PA's fecked, bam! the record kicks back in. Lovely.

Side A is a cracking cut-up of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's "Super Rappin' No.2"

The original is a great and original track with quite an electronic feel, but it is the Freeform Reform which really impresses, warming things up with some really lush and quirky production. A long track with lots of ideas - fantastic.

Absolutely THE sunset album of 2001 - lush instrumentation, heartrending vocals. And to think they made their name remixing Radiohead...

This is worth picking up on 12 for the "Mazi's Club Anthem Mix" which, although it sounds dubious, is a beautiful building filtered house track, with great strings.
