Originals, on the yellow label (with the orange 1) have a bonus track. "Without You" is the first part of the "Hot Road" cut. The re-press not only doesn't have this, but it doesn't have others as well, I believe.

While the debate over "best intro" never ends....this one's up there.

Kenny Barron's debut on records, as composer.

The great part about J.J.'s Columbias is how undervalued they are ($wise, plus aesthetically), viz a viz say Miles. Bonists know...plus peace to my cousin in Naptown

Sublime "million seller" that has an oddly melancholic center. Odd, that is, to anyone who's never truly seen the whole of love. To most of us, who knows it feels it. Derrick Harriott does a great cover, with the sort of lounge aspect that could probably ... See full review

Today marks the 85th anniversary of the government sanctioned murder of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. Uncle Sam has certainly had blood on his hands before and since, yet there is a special significance to these ... See full review

FYI: does NOT contain the famous opening drumbreak used by everyone. It has been tragically edited out of the 45, and is only on the album mix. So for all of you who have dreams of these drums of original 45, keep on dreaming!

Some copies have a hype sticker which censors the bared breasts on the front cover. It's a quote from Time Magazine: "Santana has taken flight like a Poseidon missile exploding out of a sea of mediocrity...a rare poetic delicacy. Rhythms move in parallel ... See full review

This is the best thing Lalo Schifrin ever did, and the best Dizzy LP of the 60s, combo or big band. Superb and essential.

Japanese recording engineers really know what they're doing. These records sound amazing, maybe even better than the 30th street product.

Don't be afraid to listen to "Lonely Fire" every day for a few months if you need to. It helps.

"must own" vinyl

These guys formulated the antidote but hip-hop didn't take it. Sometimes I think of this as the last b-boy document and it makes me feel old, and a little sad.

Big fan of their "gift to shape shift". I mean they each got at least two different voices. Tajai's "other voice" sounds like Phesto D's and vice versa etc. Figuring out who's who and what's what is a true head litmus test.

One of the most slept-on records in rap history. The flow and lyrical concepts here require a hard-fought buhloone mindstate that takes years to build.

Records like this are probably why JC had to leave McCoy and Elvin behind him. They just really can't keep up. The leader's playing is so strong, however, that this LP is still stellar. Chim Chim Cheree = his best soprano performance.

In depth analysis of Ives indicates that "sampling" didn't start in the 80s. Unless you meant the 1880s.

If you ask me, this "label" is total BS. Creating scarcity with intentionally low press runs...when did hip-hop ever need to bite lame ass indie rock techniques? I admit, these guys are real no-names...who ever heard of Brand Nubian, Pete Rock, or ... See full review
